As many Victorians head away for a well earned Easter trip, RACV has released some useful home security and road safety advice.

RACV Senior Safety Advisor, Elvira Lazar, has some simple tips to ensure your road trip is safe.

“Make sure you plan your route, taking into account expected weather conditions. If possible, plan your route along safer main roads. These are more likely to be well maintained and have more safety features,” Ms Lazar said.

“Make use of tools such as the VicEmergency app, which is the official Victorian Government app for access to community information and warnings for all types of emergencies in Victoria."

“It's important not to speed and notice fatigue warning signs and take a break if you're yawning, have heavy eyes or having trouble keeping a constant speed."

RACV General Manager Home, Darren Turner, said Victorians should also remember to tend to their home security before they head away.

“This might be as simple as letting a trusted neighbour know you’ll be away, making sure all your doors and windows are locked properly and setting a timer for some lights to come on at night,” Mr Turner said.

“Given we have a few days before the Easter break, now is a good time to check your home insurance policies are up to date and valuable items are identified and secured within your home.”

RACV will have its fleet of roadside assistance vehicles in operation across the state over the Easter break.

RACV Emergency Roadside Assistance Patroller, Greg Bowen, said vehicle preparation is very important, especially given most car workshops will be closed over the holiday period.

“When it comes to your vehicle preparation, make sure you check your fluid levels under your bonnet, including oil, coolant and even the windscreen washer level. Be sure to check your tyres as well,” Mr Bowen said.

“RACV is here to help at home and on the road this Easter and remember – your journey only ends when you return safely home.”
