RACV welcomes today’s news from the Andrew’s Government that the Metro Tunnel, a project it has long supported, is underway with design and builders being selected. The Cross Yarra Partnership (CYP) – a consortium led by Lendlease Engineering, John Holland, Bouygues Construction and Capella Capital, certainly brings to Melbourne a wide range of international expertise for this critical project.

Brian Negus, RACV Public Policy General Manager says RACV has long supported this project as it will enable increased metropolitan train services across Melbourne to satisfy the ever-increasing demand. The creation of a genuine "metro" system in Melbourne will be welcomed by all commuters.

“With Melbourne’s population projected to reach nearly eight million by 2050, the Metro Rail project is a key investment to reduce congestion and get Victorian's moving. This project will also release rail capacity for freight trains across Melbourne contributing to improved freight services.

The Metro Tunnel and the recently committed missing North East Link in the Metropolitan Ring Road will together provide significant relief to road and public transport users in the future."
