On Sunday 3 April 2022 the Grand Lakes Estate in Lara will see an array of free community activities, thanks to RACV and Neighbourhood Watch.

Grand Lakes Estate Reserve in Lara will have a family-friendly petting zoo and face painting as well as displays from the CFA, Victoria Police, SES, and other organisations to give an overview of services and programs in the area.

Neighbour Connect - Family Fun Day is an initiative of Neighbourhood Watch, supported by a partnership with RACV. The initiative aims to engage and connect homeowners and renters of newer residential estates to foster a sense of building communities together.

The main aim of the day is to create an opportunity for people to connect with other locals and with nearby organisations and create a safe community.

At the event, RACV will provide tips on how to stay safe in the home and give expert advice on how to fit child seats correctly to ensure children are safely buckled in with the right size seat. RACV will also have a Home Security Consultant, an Emergency Roadside Assistance van and patrol, as well as giant lawn games for all to enjoy.

Neighbourhood Watch CEO Bambi Gordon said that we all want to feel like we live in an area that is neighbourly where you can recognise and connect with others.

“After coming out of a time when we have all been so disconnected, it is so important to foster a sense of true neighbourhood so people can look out for each other, and reach out when they need,” Ms Gordon said.

RACV Head of Business and Home Insurance Kirsty Hayes said RACV seeks to help shape a smarter, safer, and more connected community for Victorians through partnerships like this one with Neighbourhood Watch and with RACV’s product and offerings for the home.

“We have seen from our partnership with Neighbourhood Watch that the more neighbours you know, the safer you feel. It gives you a chance to stay alert if any issues arise in the area.

“Taking that first step to familiarise yourself with other locals, having some fun and learning about home security can all go a long way in keeping your possessions and family safe,” Ms Hayes said.

The Neighbourhood Watch and RACV partnership encourages people to get involved in activities that foster safety at home, and in the Victorian community.
