& JULIET takes William Shakespeare’s famous Romeo and Juliet play and asks, “what if Juliet didn’t die?” & JULIET will have you singing along with some of the world's most beloved pop songs, remixed by legendary Swedish pop songwriter Max Martin. You’ll laugh and cry thanks to the expert writing of David West Read, the writer of Netflix’s popular Schitt’s Creek. This 2019 stage musical has won multiple awards since it opened in London’s West End, and has gone on to tour Broadway before landing in Melbourne in 2023.

What is & JULIET about?

& JULIET is a new musical that allows Shakespeare’s wife Anne Hathaway to rewrite his tragic romance play Romeo and Juliet. In Anne’s showstopping version, Juliet chooses her own fate in a celebration of self-discovery and second chances, wrapped up in an all-star playlist featuring songs by Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Katy Perry, The Weeknd, Kelly Clarkson, and more. Maybe her greatest love story is yet to come...

Is & JULIET suitable for children?

Children under 8 are not recommended to see & JULIET, as the show includes adult themes as well as strobe lighting, loud noises, pyrotechnics and confetti canons. Parental guidance is recommended for children aged 8 to 17.

How long is & JULIET?

& JULIET has a runtime of 2.5 hours including intermission. It is similar in length to Hamilton and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, and shorter than Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

When is & JULIET playing in Melbourne?

& JULIET opens in Melbourne on 26 February 2023. No end date has been announced yet.

Where is & JULIET showing in Melbourne?

& JULIET will be playing in Melbourne’s prestigious Regent Theatre. The theatre is based on the New York Capitol Theatre and boasts 2,145 leather seats over two levels, lavish gold interiors and original chandeliers from its 1929 opening as a grand picture palace (movie theatre). Underneath the theatre is the beautiful Plaza Ballroom, which is often used as a unique wedding venue.

It’s recommended to arrive 30 to 45 minutes before your performance start time at the Regent Theatre. This allows time to find parking, check in, have tickets scanned, go to the bathroom, order a drink at the bar, and find your seat before the show starts. With potentially more than 2,000 people seeing & JULIET with you, it’s wise to factor in time for lines.

Is there a dress code to see & JULIET?

The Regent Theatre does not have an official dress code. Most theatregoers wear smart casual clothes, although some prefer to dress up more formally for the theatre.

How do I get to the Regent Theatre?

The Regent Theatre is easily accessible via public transport. It's just a short four-minute walk from Flinders Street Station, or via the 1, 16, 48, 59 and 86 trams. Use the free journey planner app arevo for real-time information on public transport delays. If you need to hail a taxi, there are taxi bays right out the front of the Regent Theatre.

Where can I park at the Regent Theatre?

There is limited street parking near the Regent Theatre, but it is close to many secure car parks. The closest car park is Wilson Parking at 161 Collins Street, just 120 metres from the Regent Theatre. It's open 6am-midnight Sunday to Thursday, and from 6am-2am Friday and Saturday. Alternatively, you can use the free journey planner app arevo to discover the cheapest parking near your location.

What restaurants are near the Regent Theatre?

The Regent Theatre is perfectly positioned for you to try several of Melbourne’s world-class dining options. The nearby Flinders Lane houses local favourites like Chin Chin, Coda and Kisumé, while Collins Street is filled with some of Melbourne’s best Japanese restaurants like Yakimono.  
 
Another option is nearby Chinatown, one of Melbourne’s famous cultural dining hubs, which is just around the corner from the Regent Theatre. For group bookings, Sojourn offers large share plates focused on local Victorian produce and is just a short walk from the Regent Theatre.

What bars are near the Regent Theatre?

You can take advantage of Melbourne’s CBD for a post-show tipple at some of the best cocktail bars in Melbourne, such as Byrdi or Eau de Vie.
