Where the streets have celebrity names

1. AC/DC Lane - Melbourne, Victoria

A fitting tribute to the famed Aussie rock band, AC/DC Lane took over the formerly named Corporation Lane in 2004, which was the location of Melbourne’s iconic rock music hub, Cherry Bar. AC/DC Lane has since been adorned with murals, lightning bolt fixtures and graffiti dedicated to the music legends. AC/DC Lane is a must-see stop for music lovers visiting Melbourne who want to get on the Highway To Hell! 

2. Dame Edna Place - Melbourne, Victoria

Taking over Brown Alley in Melbourne’s CBD in 2007, Dame Edna Place is an homage to the city’s comedy icon and entertainer, the character Dame Edna Everage (played by Barry Humphries). Ten Dame Edna lookalikes attended the Place’s official unveiling, with Everage Street in Moonee Ponds soon to follow. Adorned with Hollywood bulbs, it has since become a tourist hotspot for all of Dame Edna’s beloved possums!

3. Amphlett Lane - Melbourne, Victoria

Off Melbourne CBD’s Little Bourke Street, avid rockers can find themselves on Amphlett Lane, named in 2015 after the beloved frontwoman for The Divinyls, the late Chrissy Amphlett. The area features a plaque dedication and rotating art murals, and was commissioned after a group of fans collected 7000 signatures in her honour. Guess they don’t want anybody else!

4. Essendon player streets -  Berwick, Melbourne, Victoria

Bombers fans will be elated to know that a pocket of streets in Melbourne’s Berwick area have been devoted to their beloved AFL team’s players, including Daniher Close, Madden Retreat, Watson Gardens, Van Der Haar Ave and Neagle Mews. Go Dons!

5. Cricket player streets - Sunbury, Melbourne

If you’re moving to this area in Sunbury, you best know your Test from your Twenty20! The Aussie home of the Ashes includes a multitude of celebrity cricketer streets, including Bradman Drive, Waugh Street, Gilchrist Crescent and Cover Drive. Time to get on the front foot and get on the long drive!

6. Beatles streets - Narre Warren South, Melbourne

Two members from the Fab Four have been immortalised in Narre Warren, where McCartney Drive intersects with Lennon Court. There are many nods to Beatles songs around the area as well, so pump the Abbey Road to drive around Norwegian Way, Jude Place, Blue Jay Court, Liverpool Court, Rigby Court, Golden Grove and Tangerine Drive – just to name a few. Beep-beep, yeah!

7. Game of Thrones streets - Geelong, Victoria

In 2017, a housing development in Geelong decided to have some fun with the street names in the estate, including Stannis St, Winterfell St, Greyjoy St, Baelish St, Tywin St and the most popular, of course – Snow St, after the titular character John Snow. It must be fun to stand on the street in June and yell, ‘Winter is coming!’

8. Lois Lane - Yarraville and Dandenong, Melbourne

It doesn’t get more kitsch than this. Superman fans can rejoice around the Melbourne suburbs of Yarraville and Dandenong, for both feature ‘Lois Lane’ named after the fictitious journalist and love interest of Superman in the popular superhero franchise. But beware on such a powerfully named street, for with great power comes great responsibility.

9. Ramsay Street - Vermont South, Melbourne

Neighbours, everybody needs good neighbours... The street synonymous with Dr. Karl, Kylie and Jason forever more was fictitiously named after Jack Ramsay, the grandad of a character named Max Ramsay. Whilst the ‘real’ street name is Pin Oak Court in Melbourne’s Vermont South, tourists come from around the world to go on the ‘Neighbours’ tour bus, which includes a visit to the sets of Ramsay Street and the characters who may be filming. Now that’s when good neighbours become good friends!

10. Wisteria Lane - Caroline Springs, Melbourne

Desperate Housewives fans need not travel all the way to Universal Studios to get their Wisteria Lane fix, for we have one right here!

Okay, so it’s not the real set, but in the Melbourne suburb of Caroline Springs, 11 houses were created on Wisteria Lane, named after the street where the popular tv show was set. Not only that, but the homes are said to have been inspired by the four main ‘housewives’ on the show, each with their own American suburbia feel. Just don’t forget some homemade American pie.

11. Indian cricket players - Rockbank, Melbourne

While it was already home to other cricket player-inspired street names including Waugh Street, Miandad Street, Ambrose Street and Akram Way, a housing estate in Rockbank features a range of streets named after Indian cricket greats, including Laxman Close, Tendulkar Drive, Kohli Crescent and Dev Terrace. Just don’t get caught off side!

12. Paul Hester Walk - Elwood, Melbourne

The trail along the Elwood canal was named after Paul Hester, the late drummer for the band Crowded House and long-time Elwood resident. Hester was a beloved personality in the community, who also ran the local Elwood Beach Café. So dedicating a part of the suburb to him? It’s Only Natural.
