Get out the blue suede shoes hound dogs, because Elvis: A Musical Revolution is getting us all shook up this September.  

After the success of the Bendigo Elvis: Direct from Graceland exhibition and the eponymous film about The King filmed on the Gold Coast in 2022, the stage musical about Elvis Presley’s life will be coming to Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre this September.  

Following his roots from humble beginnings in a house with no electricity in Mississippi to worldwide stardom across sound and screen, the musical features over 40 of Presley’s greatest hits, from Jailhouse Rock to Can’t Help Falling In Love. 

With an all star cast who shake, rattle and roll their way through Elvis Presley's highs and lows, it'll be hard to stay seated when you're transported back in time to when Elvis the Pelvis started a Fever around the world.

What is Elvis: A Musical Revolution about?

Elvis: A Musical Revolution follows the life of Elvis Presley, dubbed ‘The King of Rock n’ Roll.’ The all-new musical, authorised by Elvis Presley Enterprises, is having its global debut right here here in Australia. 

The show is a biographical jukebox musical that follows his journey from child prodigy into global superstar.

The story includes key moments from his life and career, including his introduction to music, relationship to family, interactions with greats from Frank Sinatra to his conflicted mentorship with Colonel Parker, and his famed 1968 ‘Comeback Special' amidst a soundtrack of his greatest hits. 

Is Elvis: A Musical Revolution suitable for children?

The show contains adult language and themes, and as such care should be taken for the child’s individual age and maturity level. Note there are no elevators to upper levels for items such as prams. 

How long is Elvis: A Musical Revolution?

Elvis: A Musical Revolution has a runtime of two hours and 20 minutes, including intermission.

It is similar in length to & JULIET and shorter than Mary Poppins and Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

Elvis: A Musical Revolution opens in Melbourne on 30 September 2023, and closes on 29 October 2023. 

Where is Elvis: A Musical Revolution showing in Melbourne?

Elvis: A Musical Revolution will be playing in Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre, one of the oldest public institutions in the state, located at 188 Collins Street in Melbourne’s CBD. 

The theatre is listed on both the Victorian Heritage Register and the National Trust’s Register of Historic Buildings, regularly hosting theatre, comedy, music and artist performances and conversations. The Athenaeum 'Theatre 1' has a capacity of 863 seats.

Doors open an hour before the performance start time at the Athenaeum Theatre. This allows ample time for parking or public transport arrivals, getting through, grabbing something from the theatre bar (maybe some gold rimmed shades?) and settling into your seat before the performance begins.

Is there accessible seating for Elvis: A Musical Revolution at the Athenaeum Theatre? 

Accessible toilets are installed at the Athenaeum Theatre. While there is no elevator to the Dress and Upper Circles, there are accessible seats available in the stalls that can be arranged by phoning the Athenaeum Theatre box office on 03 9650 1500. 

Is there a dress code to see Elvis: A Musical Revolution?

The Athenaeum Theatre does not have an official dress code, and casual attire is permitted.

How do I get to the Athenaeum Theatre?

Located in the CBD next to Melbourne Town Hall, the Athenaeum Theatre is easily accessible by public transport, where you can use the journey planning app arevo for your best route. 

It is under a 10-minute walk from both Parliament and Flinders St train stations, and is accessible from the 5, 11, 48, 59, 67 and 70 trams and the 207, 250, 251 and 302 bus lines. 

Where do I park near the Athenaeum Theatre? 

The closest car park to the Athenaeum Theatre is the Westin Hotel on Collins, with entry through Flinders Lane. 

Both the Russell Place Car Park and 120 Collins St Car Parks are within a 7-minute walk of the Athenaeum Theatre.
