On a chilly winter evening, there’s nothing like curling up next to a fireplace or heater with a warm, sweet drink. If a cup of tea doesn’t cut it, then a classic Hot Toddy might be the next best thing.

When we think of winter warmers, drinks that often spring to mind are the traditional hot chocolate or a warm cocktail. According to Le Petit Gateau café manager Alex Hall, simplicity is key when it comes to winter evening drinks. “The best drinks to bring to the fireplace are simple ones with accessible ingredients for everyone," he says.

On the top of Hall's list of winter drinks to enjoy at home is the easy and delicious, Hot Toddy. “Even the humblest home bartender will understand the components of this Hot Toddy recipe and how to tweak it to their preferred taste,” Hall says.

“Sipping a Hot Toddy transports us to a fireplace in a cabin in a far northern Scottish marsh, loch out one window, highland cow out the other,” he adds.

So, if you're wanting that throat warming nightcap that isn't a wintery mulled wine, try this Hot Toddy recipe for a sweet treat on colder nights.

Even better, enjoy your Hot Toddy after a warming winter meal for a great night in.
