Polestar has confirmed its highly anticipated SUV coupe, the Polestar 4 will arrive in Australia from August 2024, and has opened up the order books for customers, confirming price and model line-up.

Joining the existing Polestar 2 sedan, and the Polestar 3 SUV which arrives mid-year, the Polestar 4 SUV electric coupe is likely to become a stand-out on road, due to its strong exterior design which eliminates a conventional rear window and adds a full-length glass roof.

How much is the 2024 Polestar 4?

The Polestar 4 is priced to sit between the Polestar 2 sedan and Polestar 3 SUV and will be available in two long range models, each powered by a 100kWh battery.  The rear-wheel drive Polestar Long range Single motor is priced at $81,500 plus on-road costs. and the all-wheel drive Polestar Long range Dual motor retails for $93,050 plus on-road costs.

Both cars include Polestar’s Pilot Pack as standard which includes Pilot Assist, Polestar’s driver assistance system.

Additional packs can be optioned during the online purchasing process and include the Plus Pack ($8000), Pro Pack ($2500), Nappa upgrade (available in addition to Pro Pack – $8000) and dual-motor exclusive Performance Pack ($7200).

The Polestar Plus Pack comprises comfort and technology upgrades, including Harman Kardon premium audio system, 14.7-inch head-up display, mist coloured tailored knit upholstery and mesh interior trim, backlit to look like stars.

The Pro Pack adds 21-inch wheels and Swedish gold striped seatbelts.  The Nappa upgrade can be added to the Plus Pack, and includes animal welfare Nappa leather upholstery with ventilation and massage function on front seats, additional headrest speakers for the front seats and rear comfort headrests.

The Performance Pack amps up the appearance and driving experience of the Long range Dual motor version, with 22-inch wheels, 4-piston Brembo brakes, Polestar Engineered chassis tuning and Swedish gold details for the brakes, seat belts and valve caps.

Where can I get the 2024 Polestar 4 in Australia?

The Polestar 4 is now available to order now from the Polestar website, with first customer deliveries currently slated for August- September 2024.

What is the range of the new Polestar 4?

The Long range Dual motor model generates 400kW and 686Nm and is expected to achieve range of 580km (WLTP). 

The Long range Single motor version features a 200kW / 343Nm motor at the rear, and is hoped to achieve a range of 610km (WLTP).

Up to 200 kW DC and 22 kW AC charging is included for both versions via a motorised charge door. Polestar has included bi-directional charging hardware and will add vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality after launch.

The Long range Dual motor version allows the driver to select between Range or Performance driving modes. In Performance the vehicle is driven by both motors for maximum drive and responsiveness but it can be switched to a single motor for efficiency.

Is the new Polestar 4 a performance car?

Polestar 4 will be the fastest car from the brand so far and will accelerate to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds.. Polestar says it will benefit from strong driving dynamics including sharp steering and handling.

Semi-active suspension in the dual-motor version will offer an additional layer of adjustment between comfort and performance dynamics. Wheels range from 20 to 22-inches in size, with tyres supplied by Pirelli and Michelin, depending on configuration.

Can the electric Polestar 4 tow?

The 2024 Polestar 4 Long range Single motor model has a maximum braked towing capacity of 1500kg while the dual motor is capable of towing 2000kg. Max unbraked capacity is 750kg. An optional electrically retractable towkit with FIX4BIKE compatibility is available from Polestar for $2900 and can be ordered via the Polestar configurator.

2024 Polestar 4 interior and exterior design

By removing the rear window completely, Polestar promises rear seat passengers will have a uniquely immersive experience with powered reclining rear seats and an extended glass roof.

The Polestar 4 draws its design cues from the Polestar Precept concept car and has aerodynamics at its core with a low nose, retractable door handle, frameless windows, rear aero blades and rear light bar.

Underpinned by the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) developed by Geely Holding, Polestar 4 is similar in length and height to the BYD Seal sedan but 20mm wider and Polestar says it has created a generous interior focused on rear seat comfort, a shortcoming of the current Polestar 2.

A secondary media and climate control screen is mounted between the front seats to enable rear occupant control.

Compensating for the missing rear window and replacing the rear-view mirror, a high definition screen shows a real time feed from a roof-mounted camera. The digital feed can be deactivated to allow drivers to instead see rear occupants if needed.

The interior design of the Polestar 4 is inspired by fashion and sportswear industries. Colour and material choices for Polestar 4 are introduced to the brand for the first time including new exterior colours Storm and Electron, and a unique new interior colour, Mist.

2024 Polestar 4 safety features

Similar to the 2024 Polestar 3, the Polestar will be equipped with a range of advanced safety features, including Pilot Assist which enables lane change assist at the tap of the indicator stalk. It also incorporates seven airbags and 12 cameras, one radar and 12 ultrasonic sensors.

A driver monitoring camera system monitors driver fatigue or distraction and is paired with a steering wheel sensor that can determine if the driver is still in contact with the wheel.

Please note: An ANCAP rating has not yet been released for the Polestar 4.
