With eased restrictions and regional Victoria coming out of hibernation, here’s the best way to enjoy your freedoms. 

Imagine this: bags packed, snacks ready, playlist on… and then, you’re off! Well, that can be a reality for regional Victorians, excluding those in Greater Shepparton, because restrictions are easing, and they can now leave their own street after what feels like forever.

And boy, have they missed the feeling of hitting Victorian roads.

Luckily, regional Victorians have some amazing places to visit, and all are within the limitations of travel restrictions.

From the surf coast of Torquay to spa country in Daylesford, our RACV resorts are opening to regional Victorians for golf from September 10th, and accommodation from September 17th.  

So, whether you’re going for a day, or a week, here are the best places to visit in regional Victoria – but be quick to book, because all destinations are subject to capacity limits.

  • Because: It's the perfect unspoilt beach town

Head on down the South Gippsland highway to Inverloch, the sleepy beachside town that’s becoming very popular with out-of-towners.

With markets on weekends featuring the best local produce in the Gippsland area, wineries just a short drive from town and unspoilt beaches for surfers and swimmers alike, it’s a gem of a place all regional Victorians need to visit at least once.

And not too far down the Cape Paterson – Inverloch road you’ll find the RACV Inverloch Resort, with unspoilt ocean views and nestled in nature, it’s probably one of the comfiest places to rest and recharge – and with selected accommodation available from Friday to Sunday, don’t delay in booking this one.

 

Torquay, Great Ocean Road

  • Where: Great Ocean Road, Torquay
  • Time: A weekend
  • Because: World-class coastal views can’t be beaten

Head down to the surf coast of Victoria and get a feel for how the locals live, with the journey of the Great Ocean Road just as good as the destination itself.

On one side, you’ve got the spectacular Bass Strait, and on the other, cliff faces that wind around all the way to the towns of Lorne and Apollo Bay. Continue making your way around the coastline before pulling up for some fish ‘n’ chips at Port Campbell

When you’ve had enough of the tourist crowd, pull off the main road and find some hidden gems, like Triplet or Hopetoun Falls near Beech Forest, or Carisbrook near Apollo Bay. And when dinner time hits, head to Torquay and make a night of it with the in-room dining packages at the RACV Torquay Resort.

Wake up in the morning to beach views, visit One Spa (opening September 15th) and then play a round of golf at the spectacular course amongst the sand dunes.

Goldfields, Ballarat and Daylesford Region 

  • Where: Creswick
  • Time: A weekend
  • Because: The whole family will love this one  

Down the Western Freeway towards Ballarat you’ll find Creswick, a gem of a place in the Daylesford region.

It’s fun for the whole family as you immerse yourselves in the history of the Ballarat goldfields, soak in the mineral springs, or visit a local winery for lunch. And when the day is done, sleep easy at the RACV Goldfields Resort.

It’s easy, it’s relaxed and when you wake up in lush forest, it’s impossible not to feel calm. You can also feast on local ingredients and seasonal produce, and the kids will have a ball at nearby Kryal Castle and Ballarat Wildlife Park.
