A group of motoring enthusiasts created the Automobile Club of Victoria in December 1903 to promote members' use and enjoyment of motor vehicles.

Receiving the royal seal of approval in 1916, RACV has since become a multi-faceted, member-focused organisation, offering diverse products and services to more than 2 million members.

The main member activities are emergency roadside assistance, technical advice on vehicles, driving instruction, research into road safety and vehicle design, touring and travel tips and the RoyalAuto magazine. RACV also strongly advocates for members on many mobility-related issues, including petrol prices, road funding and safety.

In addition to running quality lifestyle clubs in Melbourne's CBD and Healesville, RACV also operates impressive resorts at Cape Schanck, Inverloch, Cobram, Noosa and the Gold Coast, with development of a 6th resort underway at Torquay.

RACV's commercial products include comprehensive and third party property and motor vehicle insurance, home and contents insurance, boat, caravan and trailer insurance, landlord insurance, farm and business insurance, home security, financial services and personal loans.

This year RACV has launched Emergency Home Assist, an innovative new service for the home which is based on the principles of Emergency Roadside Assistance.

As a membership organisation, RACV is committed to returning value to members as well as providing great value products and high quality service. One of the ways in which we do this is through RACV’s Years of Membership Benefits program which provides discounts based on years of membership. Members can benefit from discounts of up to 20 per cent on products including emergency roadside assistance, insurance, home security, finance and travel insurance.

As a Victorian business built on servicing members' needs, RACV takes its' broader obligations as a responsible corporate citizen seriously. It funds community-based projects and activities through its charitable trust, the RACV Community Foundation. RACV also provides community support through an active and wide-ranging Community Partnerships program.
