RACV Energy Compare empowers Victorians to save on bills without handing over personal information

With energy prices on the rise, RACV is encouraging Victorians to review their energy plans and check if they can get a better deal.

RACV’s simple comparison tool called Energy Compare enables Victorians to view all available energy offers from all retailers in Victoria, and find the ideal plan for their household – including any discounts such as paying on time – all without having to disclose any personal details.

A recent report by UBS estimates an increase of 40 per cent in retail electricity prices over the next one to three years, which could mean an average electricity price increase of 10 per cent each year over the next four years. On top of increasing energy prices, analysis by St Vincent de Paul Society found that the difference between the ‘best’ and ‘worst’ offer in the market for an average home can be as high as $530 per annum.   RACV Home Products General Manager, Juan Carlos Lopez highlights the benefits of Energy Compare, as a free online tool that provides unbiased advice about all relevant energy offers in the market, without having to provide any personal information.

“We know that a major factor influencing bill price is payment behaviour—many retailers offer significant ‘pay on time’ discounts and some retailers offer additional discounts for direct-debit payments. How you pay your bills can have a big influence on how much you pay.”

Sadly, home energy deals can be woefully complicated, with different rates, supply charges, fees and conditional discounts. Most energy comparison services only compare the suppliers who pay to present their products, and require consumers to disclose personal details to obtain a price comparison.
