Internship program

2017 Internship Program

RACV is a proud Australian organisation with a long and distinguished history. We are a successful mutual enterprise, centred on providing valued products and services to our members and caring for our members and their communities.

Have you recently completed Year 12/TAFE or/University? Looking to get your foot in the door with a well-known organisation to start building highly valued experience? Then the RACV Internship Program is the perfect start. This opportunity is for you to learn, develop and express your fresh ideas that can be partnered with the insight and direction of those who have more developed business perspectives.

Over six months, Interns will have the opportunity to gain practical on-the-job experience, receive constant support, as well as take part in our development program, designed especially for those in the early stages of their career. At the end of the six-month placement our goal is for Interns to have gained solid and valuable experience in their area of interest and be ready to take the next step in their careers.

RACV is moving its headquarters to Bourke Street in the city in late 2017. As part of the move, a new workplace design will be implemented to support RACV's future ways of working. Our new head office will develop a space that will better support flexibility, collaboration and innovation and enable staff to work together in a more inspiring, healthier and sustainable workplace.

The Internship program has helped me grow both personally and professionally. I’ve learned how to actively contribute to group meetings and become more assertive when I need to be, to ensure that I get my ideas across and that my contributions are recognised.

One of the main skills I’ve been able to develop is multi-tasking and prioritising my work load on a fast paced, busy day. Coming into work every day, I very quickly learned of the importance of planning and keeping track of my responsibilities. Prioritising time is crucial in this role, as you will find yourself with multiple responsibilities from various teams. It’s easy to get caught up in a busy schedule, so really keeping track of my duties and responsibilities by making note of it, helped me stay organised and efficient.

I have learnt the importance of networking with people, both within my department and right across RACV. Everyone here is very friendly, supportive and is always willing to ensure I gain as much experience here as possible. Overall I have enjoyed expanding my knowledge and gaining valuable experience in a large organisation environment.

The things I’ve enjoyed most are the people I’ve been able to work with, the constant learning and discoveries. It’s been amazing learning from everyone, my manager, my mentor and my colleagues. I’ve learnt so much in such a small amount of time and I’m still learning. It’s incredible.

RACV as a whole is very welcoming, for example when the new TV ad for our Emergency Home Assist Service was about to be released, rather than celebrating this as a single department, there was an office-wide celebration.  This included a speech about the design and challenges of creating the ad, viewing of the ad on a big screen, and food and refreshments for everyone. I liked that management included everyone and brought them all together to celebrate the accomplishment right across the company.

I have received continuous support since joining. The support that is provided to one another on a daily basis is unmatched. Every day has been a fun learning experience, and knowing I can rely on the people I’m surrounded with for advice and feedback has helped me feel comfortable and confident going forward.

Throughout my Internship, every day has been a day of learning for me. Over the past 6 months I have learnt a variety of different skills that have helped me develop my understanding of what it takes to be a turf tradesperson; these skills include learning to operate a variety of different mowers and what each mower is specifically used for, and learning basic handling of chemicals.

I have discovered that there is no such thing as an ordinary day. Because of the very nature of the Internship, my department needed to be able to respond to unexpected changes with little notice. On a typical day we meet as a small team every morning, have a toolbox meeting to discuss what needs to be done, and then go about achieving it.

What I enjoyed most was working and being part of a close knit team. From day one I felt very welcomed, and all the staff was happy to help support me in my new role.

What I enjoy most about working at RACV is the constant challenges I am faced with, it allows me to continue to learn while I use my own initiative to find solutions.  The work satisfaction I get from putting in 100% effort in to everyday is very rewarding and something to feel proud of. The positive feedback we all receive at the Resort is very motivating.

RACV has taught me the value in maintaining trusted relationships with members/guests who visit the Resort. I show this daily by always offering assistance to guests, going above and beyond to meet their needs and trying to find a solution when being faced with a challenge.

Overall the Internship has been the most worthwhile opportunity that I could have ever experienced. I am so grateful for being selected to participate in the program. Because I have always been a hands-on learner the Internship program allowed me to succeed to my best ability. I have had excellent training from all managers throughout my journey.
