Genevieve Deslandes is company manager of Kooza, Cirque du Soleil’s latest spectacular.
What attracted you to the company?
I am from Montreal and was lucky enough to see many Cirque du Soleil shows from a fairly young age. I grew up loving how different the shows were and always looking forward to the next one.
You do a lot of travelling. Do you get to enjoy the places you visit?
I do! Many of us try to really live in each city. We go to markets, cook at home, see shows when we are not working for ours, visit wineries, etc.
We know ‘the show must go on’ but has there been a time when it didn’t?
Oh yes! We had to cancel in 2015 when Brisbane was flooded in some areas. We were safe but most of our guests were unable to drive to us.
What has been the best experience?
We were with Kooza in Japan when the earthquake struck in 2011. We returned a few weeks later and brought joy back with us. The audience was so generous with us, it was unforgettable.
