Students at Healesville’s Worawa Aboriginal College are turning out cafe-worthy coffees thanks to a new commercial coffee machine bought with funds from RACV Healesville Country Club’s Community Donations Fund.

The machine has been installed at the boarding school’s Sandra Bardas Art Gallery so students including Tiara Douglas and Shantelle McCormack (pictured right) can make coffee for gallery guests and for staff.

Club staff ran a barista training afternoon to teach students how to use the machine and how to make different styles of coffee. Healesville Club manager Rob Everett says students have also done work experience and toured the Club.

“The relationship with Worawa is a very important one for us and we hope to strengthen that local connection,” he says.

“We love doing work experience with young people as this is sometimes their first exposure to hospitality and can lead to them getting a foot in the door. They just need a positive attitude, great personality and a competitive drive to succeed.”
