Giving way from a slip lane

RoyalAuto magazine

When turning left from a slip lane, do you have to give way to right- turning traffic coming from the other direction?

Robert Cross, Yarrambat

Yes. A slip lane is an area of road for vehicles turning left that is separated, at some point, from other parts of the road by a painted island or traffic island.

When turning left from a slip lane, drivers are required to give way to any traffic that is turning right to travel in the same direction as you are turning.

If the slip lane is signalised with a turn arrow, traffic will not be turning right at the same time as vehicles in the slip lane are turning left.
