RACV calls for real-time travel information
Victoria’s public transport network is now available on Google Maps. Google uses timetable data to show departure and stop information, and plan the quickest route using public transport. Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan says it’s an improvement to an app many use daily. “Google transit makes it easier to get around – you can plan your journey on public transport and, compare it to walking, cycling or driving.”
Better plan journeys
RACV’s manager of public transport and mobility Thanuja Gunatillake says this is a welcome move and will enable public transport users to better plan their journeys; something RACV has been long proposing.
“It will help locals and tourists, especially those not familiar with the network or their public transport options,” she says.
Thanuja says RACV is looking forward to live travel information being made available across the entire network to help commuters plan around any delays or disruptions as they happen.
The timetable data will include planned service changes, as well as extra services for special events such as the upcoming AFL season.
The much-anticipated feature was announced nearly a year ago by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews.
