Seven days at Cobram Resort

RACV Cobram Resort

RACV Cobram Resort is a family-friendly destination set along the Murray River. The region is renowned for its sunny weather and is ideal for a mid-week break, family holiday or a weekend getaway in Victoria.

RACV Cobram Resort is around 260 kilometres from Melbourne, an easy three-hour drive, and has a range of accommodation options.

Day One

Morning
Have a stroll along the picturesque Murray River to stretch your legs. Enjoy a coffee at riverside Ku de ’Ta overlooking Thompson’s Beach. With floor-to-ceiling glass windows you can take in the wonderful view.

Lunch
Get your bearings in the main street of Cobram and stock up on staples for the week. Drop into Ambience Bakery Café for some delicious pastries and cakes; pack a picnic for an afternoon of fishing.

Afternoon
A spot of fishing is a lovely way to spend an afternoon in Cobram. The Murray River is a popular site for anglers, throw in a line from the bank and relax. Don’t forget your fishing licence though, you need a NSW licence to fish the Murray, even from the Victorian bank.

Evening
Hire a DVD from reception and pick up take-away dinner from Jack’s Chinese take-out in Cobram and enjoy a night in.

Day Two

Morning and lunch
There are many beautiful national parks to visit in the Cobram area. Barmah National Park lies along the Murray River between the towns of Barmah and Strathmerton. Spend the morning on a trail walk, or try fishing, canoeing or swimming. Tuck into a lunchtime picnic among the great River Red Gums for lunch.

Afternoon
Experience the natural beauty of World Heritage-listed Barmah Wetlands on board the MV Kingfisher. The kids will love spotting animals from the boat. The area is a haven for 236 bird species and 50 different mammals and an eco guide will talk about the wildlife as well as Indigenous stories and legends of the land.

Evening
Unwind at Cobram Resort’s large playground and jumping pillow, fun for adults and kids! Enjoy dinner at the local pub, the Grand Central Hotel.

Day Three

Morning
Relax on the sun lounges on the deck overlooking the vast outdoor pool. Children will love the mushroom waterfall and the rock water fountain in the lagoon-shaped pool. The toddler’s pool is shaded with sun cloth in summer and in winter guests can relax undercover in the surrounds of the 25-metre indoor pool and spa.

Lunch
The poolside cafe is open from 8.30am until 4pm seven days a week, serving breakfast, hearty lunches of fish and chips, hamburgers, chicken parmas, Thai curries and salads, as well as traditional snacks and milkshakes, wraps and focaccias.

Afternoon
With Cobram Resort's emphasis on self-catering, there's every excuse to source fine local food and wine. Enjoy olive-centric ingredients from Rich Glen Olive Oil, Boosey Creek Cheese, sweet goodness at The Big Strawberry, fine wine from Monichino and Fyffe Field, good brews at Buffalo Brewery plus all your barbecue needs from Doyle's Gourmet Meats in Cobram. Each gives a discount when RACV members show their current member card. Or for a more extensive gourmet adventure head to reception and collect a farm gate trail brochure.

Evening
Use the onsite barbecues and camp kitchen to cook up your gourmet local dinner.

Day Four

Morning
A 25-minute drive from the resort is Tunzafun, a kids’ activity haven in Yarrawonga. Tunzafun has an 18-hole mini golf course, dodgem cars, Krazy Kars, a merry-go-round, a mini train and large trampolines.

Lunch
Enjoy lunch at Tunzafun, they have barbecue facilities and a kiosk.  

Afternoon
While in Yarrawonga, take the family for a ride on the iconic Murray River Paddlesteamers. Dedicated to making a cruise along the Murray memorable, they offer a wide range of cruising options including short cruises, dining cruises, functions, wedding and entertainment cruises as well as accommodated cruises.

Evening
Wind down with a new-release film at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club. It has a 60-seat cinema with a fully licensed lounge bar, and a menu with delicious food.

Day Five

Morning
Go karting! RACV Cobram Resort’s go-karts are not just for kids. Young or old, the karts are a fun way to explore the resort and can be hired for $5 an hour. Book at reception.

Lunch
Stop by the poolside cafe to cool down and enjoy a light lunch.

Afternoon
The Big Strawberry in Koonoomoo has something for everyone. Whether its breakfast, lunch or just a treat, enjoy a wide range of meals and strawberry desserts. Highlights include strawberry burgers, pancakes, sundaes, and ice-cream. Look through a range of strawberry products as well as jams relishes, chutneys, wines and liqueurs all made on the premises from local produce. Take kids to the new indoor kids’ play centre.

Evening
On your way home from The Big Strawberry stop by Malabar Hill Restaurant in Cobram for an authentic Indian feast.

Day Six

Morning
Enjoy a bike ride along the resort trails. Bikes are available for hire for half a day or a full day. A children’s trailer can be fitted to the bikes, and helmets are included in the hire. The bikes can be used to explore the region. Resort staff can help with directions, and instructions are also attached to the bikes.

Lunch
Pack up a picnic lunch and head to Barooga Botanical Gardens for the afternoon. You will find a large children’s playground, grassy areas for ball sports and water features.

Afternoon
Visit Byramine Homestead in Yarrawonga, classified by the National Trust for its unique design. At the homestead you can take a historical tour, enjoy a Devonshire tea or ploughman’s lunch or sample boutique beers and cider at their brewery.

Evening
The Old Bank in Tocumwal has consistently positive reviews from customers and serves authentic Italian meals in a family-friendly atmosphere. Find them at on Murray Street, Tocumwal.

Day Seven

Morning
Adults can spend the morning relaxing at Vanity Day Spa in the main street of Cobram. Treatments include hot stone and relaxation massages, cleansing facials and mineral body scrubs.

Lunch
Indulge in an array of fresh food options at Wake Fresh, on Punt Road in Cobram. Try superfood smoothie bowls or fresh juices, fun milkshakes, fresh wraps, raw treats and local coffee.

Afternoon
Cactus country in Strathmerton is a quirky place that the kids will love exploring. There are 3.2 hectares of mature landscaped gardens with 4000 cacti species, and some plants are 50 years old. The colours and shapes are amazing, with examples from South America, North America, Mexico and Africa. You might like to try cactus cake in the café.

Evening
Take out or dine in at Cobram’s most popular Italian restaurant Presto Pasta & Pizza Cobram.
