It has a lovely old world, downtown-LA atmosphere. It is primarily a club (and has a very charming 'club' feel, especially in the bar and restaurant areas). My hotel room was large and comfortable, and the breakfast room was lovely. The fitness centre facilities are fantastic. The pool and running track are a must-see. Downtown LA is in the midst of becoming quite gentrified. Still some sketchy areas to be aware of, but lots of great spots to eat and wander about close by. There is a train station quite close by, but most people get around LA now with Uber.
My wife and I recently took advantage of our reciprocal arrangement with the Marines Memorial Club in San Francisco. It is a wonderful club with a very welcoming culture. As the name suggests, it has a strong military decor which provides a fascinating insight to the history of the Marines over the last 100 years. This includes a library and numerous displays throughout the club highlighting significant events in the history of the Marines. The Leatherneck Steakhouse Restaurant on the 12th floor has a true club ambience. The staff are friendly and the menu is simple and very good. The tariff includes a two hour happy hour every afternoon from 4 until 6 and a full menu breakfast. The club is centrally located, only a block from Union Square. We highly recommend the Club to anyone visiting San Francisco
