A change in the rules

RACV Golf

An RACV Member aims to put on an RACV golf course

In March, the Royal & Ancient (R&A) together with the United States Golf Association (USGA) developed an initiative to modernise the rules of golf. This modernisation includes several controversial rule adjustments that are said to make them easier to understand and apply for golfers of all levels.

Some of the proposed rule changes include:

  • Relaxed bunker rules
  • Pace-of-play support
  • Simplified way of taking relief
  • Elimination or reduction of “ball moved” penalties
  • Relaxed putting green rules

These potential rule amendments are out to the jury though and that jury is you, the golfing public. Golfers are asked to give their views and feedback on these proposed changes during a six-month feedback and evaluation period. The results and amended rules will take effect from 1 January 2019.

A full introduction to the Rules Modernisation initiative and a feedback survey can be found here. RACV Golf is encouraging our members to have their say on the proposal.
