Colpasso Fiano is growing in popularity, mixing crisp flavours and affordability to deliver a near-perfect summer wine.

When it comes to wine, Italy is a country that gets it so right. Whether it’s a white or a red, the typical Italian drop is one that’s sure to please even the fussiest of wine connoisseurs.

But as summer approaches, we tend to move towards crisp whites and lighter flavours that pair well with BBQs and fresh food.

Luckily, there’s a wonderful Italian option that’s growing in popularity and won’t break the bank, according to RACV Club Sommelier Christian Maier.

Colpasso Fiano, hailing from the region of Sicily in southern Italy, is the perfect tonic, with hints of honey and crisp citrus.

Historically treated as the ‘poor cousin’ to other white wines, Maier says we should now view Colpasso Fiano as a top tier wine.

“It pretty much tastes like an old-world style of wine, instead of really fresh fruits, but it has a lot of the pineapple and lemon zest that give it a really nice finish,” he says in the below video.

“It’s a good one to have casually at home sitting around, or pair it with meats like chicken or fish, or anything with tomatoes.”

Indeed, we can see a glass of Colpasso Fiano pairing nicely with juicy king prawns at your next summer picnic or festive season gathering.

And to top it off, Colpasso Fiano is available from major wine merchants for less than $15!
