More than a century ago, three motorcycle enthusiasts set off on an expedition that would lead them into the history books. Printer Sydney Day, cycle company manager James Coleman and advertising manager Henry “Harry” Barton James of Dunlop Pneumatic Tyre Company were travelling to Tooradin on Western Port Bay. Harry James, riding high on the excitement that accompanied the introduction of the motorcar into Australia, floated the idea that they should form a motoring club to promote the use and enjoyment of motor vehicles. The idea became reality and the Automobile Club of Victoria was born in 1903.

Your Club has a diverse range of facilities and activities for you, your family, friends and colleagues to enjoy. We have two stunning venues – 501 Bourke Street in the city and the Healesville Country Club in the beautiful Yarra Valley, a pleasant one-hour drive from Melbourne. Together these properties provide members with access to an exceptional range of accommodation, dining, lifestyle and recreational facilities that are widely recognised as the best in their field.

When it comes to special occasions such as birthdays, weddings and anniversaries, your Club is the perfect place to celebrate with family and friends. Whether it’s a function in one of our fantastic restaurants or bars or a private event in one of our function spaces, we are here to help make it an occasion to remember for you and your guests.

Take the opportunity to meet other members with shared interests at one of our member interest groups. There is a wide selection of groups to choose from, covering many interests, including card games, book groups, sports, cycling and a group for our younger members.

RACV Club will continue to evolve to meet the needs of our broad membership base and we welcome your feedback.
