Things to remember

Licence requirements

You’ll need a current, physical Australian driver’s licence. Digital, temporary and some other licence types aren’t accepted*.

Photo requirements

You can take the photo yourself. However, there will be delays if it doesn’t meet the Australian Passport Office requirements.

Avoid fake IDPs

We’re Victoria’s authorised seller of IDPs. We sell them on behalf of the Australian Automobile Association.

Get your IDP overseas

You can apply online and use international express post or direct courier to deliver your IDP to an overseas address.

Plan ahead, order online

No one else can apply for your IDP

You have to apply for your own IDP, and an application can’t be approved if someone else has applied for you.

Frequently asked questions

We’re authorised by the Australian Automobile Association (the only official distributor of IDPs in Australia) to sell IDPs on their behalf.

You can avoid buying fraudulent permits or licences by only applying with AAA or the motoring club in your state or territory.

Local authorities and car companies in other countries may require you to hold an IDP to drive or rent a vehicle.

Valid IDPs are official United Nations documents and show the local authorities that you’re licenced to drive in Australia.

Yes, you’ll need to follow the steps on this page and either pay for international express post or a direct courier to deliver your IDP to an overseas address.

If your licence isn’t an Australian driver's licence, you’ll need to contact your issuing country’s IDP provider.
