City Club Courtyard has transformed to Bourke Street Green.
You told us, we listened. We continue to put member feedback into action and are investing in improvements and additional amenities for the Club. These exciting upgrades will not only modernise the existing spaces but allow us to add new features to important Club areas for everyone to enjoy.
With our commitment to ensuring the Club remains one of Australia’s best clubs, the City Club will experience some construction work during 2019 and 2020. We believe these upgrades are essential to continue to add value to Club membership and ensure we maintain our rich history and strong traditions, but also appeal to a new generation of members, their families and guests.
We are pleased to announce the opening of our new shared working space, bringing a completely new concept to RACV Club. To encourage Club Members to try this modern facility we are offering all Club Members a free trial period until the end of February 2020.
As with other facilities at RACV Club such as the fitness centre, the new shared working space will be available to Club Members as an optional package that can be added to your existing membership from March 2020. These pricing options will be shared shortly and there will be a range of options for members to choose from. This facility is designed as a shared working space and as per the Club by laws Members should not seek to operate permanent businesses from this great new facility.
The new space brings a totally new experience for Members - a multi-faceted, two-story work space offers Members the opportunity to flexibly drop in to meet, work, network and collaborate, with a variety of work spaces including quiet phone booths, hot desks, bookable meeting rooms and common areas. The new facilities will be accessible from both within the Club as well as a new entry and lift direct from New Chancery Lane in 2020. The space will also feature social spaces including a café offering healthy food options and freshly brewed coffee.
We welcome you to please experience the new space during the free trial period, until end of February 2020.
The former Club Conservatory has a new name! Thank you to all the members who put their creative caps on and entered the competition. We were overwhelmed with responses but would like to congratulate five members, John Knowles (and partner Robyn), Lindsay Jackson, James Nash, Ann Drayton and Philip Murphy.
Inspired by the first petrol car the “Tarrant”, built in a small workshop in Melbourne by Harley Tarrant in 1901. The sole surviving Tarrant automobile is owned by RACV and is displayed at the City Club. Harley Tarrant also served on the governing committee of the Automobile Club of Victoria from 1906-10, championing the capabilities of the motor car.
Next time you’re at the City Club, make a pit stop at The Tarrant Room and enjoy time with friends or inspect the venue for your next special event. Head down to Chancery lane level at City Club and have a look at the beautifully maintained Tarrant automobile.
We are pleased to announce a new dining experience will launch in 2020 on Little Collins Street in the space currently housing the RACV store and Club Tours & Travel.
The new restaurant will be open to both Club Members and the public, with exclusive benefits and privileges for RACV Club members.
This move also makes way for the upgrade of brand-new, custom designed spaces for the RACV store and Club Tours & Travel only a few doors up Little Collins Street near Le Petit Gateau to help us continue to serve our Members in new and improved ways.
We hope you have been able to visit and experience Melbourne’s newest bar – Bourke Street Green.

The Gallery Lounge on Level 1 will remain open.
As work continues on the City Club, the following frequently asked questions have been answered by RACV Club staff for our members to reference and be assured that the updates are improving the Club for the future.
To improve and further enhance our member experience, we conducted surveys of Club members to find out what it is they like most about the Club now and what improvements they’d like to see in the future. Following hundreds of responses to an online survey, we engaged a further 40 members to participate in comprehensive research interviews and concept testing sessions to get a good sample across age groups, tenures and backgrounds.
One of the things that came across strongly was the need to modernise the spaces to ensure the Club remains a place that welcomes future generations of members.
We are now using this feedback to improve the City Club to improve the facilities and offering for both current and future members. This includes refreshing and modernising the courtyard, now Bourke Street Green, and multiple spaces on Level 1 including the Business Centre and re-launched Conservatory and re-named by members ‘The Tarrant Room’.
We appreciate your patience during these works and will be doing everything possible to keep any disruption to a minimum.
We are committed to ensuring the Club remains one of Australia’s best clubs and believe these upgrades are essential to continue to add value to Club membership and ensure we maintain our rich history and strong traditions, but also appeal to a new generation of members.
One of the many findings to emerge from member feedback has been the need to modernise our spaces and keep the Club fresh so with all plans we are striving to do this. We will continue to invest in the Club, to add amenities and modernise the space for members, future generations, their families and guests.

Following the recent upgrades to the courtyard - now Bourke Street Green, we are continuing to put your feedback into action and are investing in improvements and additional amenities for the Club. These exciting upgrades will not only modernise the existing spaces but allow us to add new features to important Club areas for everyone. This includes:
We anticipate opening the new Business Centre in late 2019.
All dining areas will be open and operating across the Club including the Bistro, Dining Room and the Carbine Bar.
Bourke Street Green is also now open to members and the public at the front of the City Club and provides a light and fresh space to enjoy a drink and light snacks with friends and family.
We are currently looking at alternative arrangements for the existing business centre on level 2 during the construction works and will provide an update shortly.
The works on level 1 affect the Conservatory, President’s Room, Club Room, Ladies’ Lounge and Parent’s room on Level 1. All other areas of the Club will be available as usual.
We don’t anticipate much noise and we will be working hard to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
They’ve moved just a couple of doors up Little Collins Street. The new spaces have been custom designed to provide the best service possible to our members.
The new RACV shop will offer the same great products and services it always has, just a few metres away.
Club Tours & Travel will also open from a separate space next to the RACV shop providing a separate space for Club members to make all their travel arrangements in a new custom-designed store.
An opportunity arose on Little Collins Street to upgrade and custom design a new space for our RACV city store and Club Tours & Travel spaces to better serve our members.
We continue to listen to member feedback and build the Club of the future with new, modern facilities that appeal to members and future generations, their families and guests.

We look forward to sharing exciting updates on the new dining experience as we get closer to opening.
As the work commences, you’ll notice the new imagery and signage around the Club and Little Collins precinct providing more information and a taste of what’s to come when the space officially opens.
We will continue to update the website with more details and will be launching a new website for the opening.
The Little Collins precinct will be a public restaurant on Little Collins Street, however RACV Club members will get exclusive benefits and privileges, just like Bourke Street Green.
We are currently reviewing how we might use the previous shop space and will continue to provide updates to you.
As previously communicated, we will start work on a new entrance from New Chancery Lane to the Business Centre to make it easier to access this new and improved space when it opens. We will work to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum.
