How to adjust door hinges using cardboard

One of the most common home maintenance tasks is adjusting uneven door hinges, it’s also one of the easiest issues to fix. In this week’s lesson, RACV's Handy Andy will show you how to fix a sagging or uneven door using cardboard.

Here’s what you’ll need to fix a sagging door

There's nothing more annoying than not being able to close a door because the hinges are sagging or uneven. Learn how to fix sagging doors using a piece of carboard with these tips from RACV's Handy Andy.

  1. Loosen middle hinge screws
  2. Remove bottom hinge screws
  3. Place cardboard behind the hinge to prop it out as required
  4. Replace screws in the bottom hinge again
  5. Tighten middle hinge screws back
  • Screwdriver – flathead or a Phillips head depending on the screws used
  • Pair of scissors
  • Thin, strong, compressed cardboard (eg coaster)
  • Safety gloves
