Join RACV Torquay Resort yoga instructor Russelle for a virtual yoga class.

This sequence is called Suryanamaskara A and is part of the Ashtanga vinyasa tradition. The breath is the most important element of the practise, so as you move through this salute, concentrate on balancing your breath.

Your inhalation and exhalation should be in equal volume, breathing in and out through your nose.

You are looking to extend length through the spine and to ensure your movements are purposeful. To begin, stand in a relaxed position at the top of the mat, with your big toes together and a little space between your heels.

Push your feet down into the floor, draw your quads up, draw your navel in and up and broaden your chest and shoulders.

With your palms and biceps facing forward, allow your gaze to soften towards the tip of your nose and beyond.

Take the time to watch the full sequence before commencing your practice. Complete the sequence four times, following your breath.
