Non‑compliance with Victoria’s rental minimum standards remains a significant concern.
RACV rescued over 105,000 Victorians with flat tyres in one year
RACV Emergency Roadside Assistance rescued more than 105,000 Victorian motorists with flat tyre breakdowns in 2025, with potholes, sharp objects and kerb strikes among the common causes.
New figures released by RACV reveal its patrols received on average 306 calls a day for flat tyre assistance in 2025, with northern and western Melbourne suburbs accounting for seven of the top 10 breakdown locations.
RACV General Manager Automotive Services Makarla Cole is urging motorists to take extra caution when driving near construction sites and roadworks, and when encountering potholes on Victorian roads.
"The suburbs experiencing the highest number of punctured tyre callouts include Tarneit, Melbourne CBD, Truganina and Point Cook, with northern and western suburbs featuring prominently in the top 10," Ms Cole said.
"Even small potholes can cause wear and tear to your vehicle's suspension and steering which can be costly.
"We also recommend motorists check their tyre pressure at least once a month and before long journeys."
Common reasons for punctured tyres include road hazards like potholes, sharp objects like nails and road debris, damaged rims leading to air loss, tyre damage caused by striking the kerb or gutter and sidewall tears.

Ms Cole said RACV has recently expanded their Emergency Roadside Assistance plans to make it easier for Victorian families.

"This means drivers can receive help in any of their nominated vehicles and get a complimentary RACV Membership, saving time and hassle with just one plan."
