One of the largest employers in the Hepburn Shire, RACV Goldfields Resort is giving high school, TAFE and University graduates a leg up in their chosen career path, through RACV’s Internship Program.
The program gives young people living in the area the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in their career industry of choice, under the supervision of experienced staff and managers who have more developed business perspectives.
Ballarat local 18 year old Jacob Mullane entered the Internship Program in April 2016 and it was the first step on his career path in the area of golf-course turf management.
“It has been really good to be a part of the crew here and such a great resort to work for. It’s a fantastic golf course and I’m really enjoying learning how to maintain the turf and get the course up to championship standard,” he said.
RACV Goldfields Resort Golf Course Superintendent, Kel Oswin said the Internship Program had been a huge win for the resort and a great success.
“We have been very lucky to have Jacob through the Internship Program and have now offered him a turf apprenticeship.”
“The six-month Internship Program opens doors for young adults and in turn has provided value for our organisation,” he said.
RACV Goldfields Resort Manager, Stephen Roberts said RACV understands the challenges young people face when entering a competitive job market, with little experience.
“As a resort, we have the luxury of being able to give people exposure to a wide variety of skill sets within the one facility, as the interns move around various areas of the business supported by management.
“A second intern started with us in October, which is fantastic as the Internship Program is providing a real boost for the young participants and for the RACV Goldfields Resort overall.”
RACV invests more than $600,000 each year in helping young people to build job skills through an internship. Keep an eye on the RACV website and social media channels for opportunities to participate.
