Staying safe during extreme weather
The most important thing is your safety. Make sure you follow the direction of local authorities and if you need help, call 000 or State Emergency Services (SES) on 132 500.
If you’ve been affected by the recent adverse weather, we encourage you to lodge a claim online. Our claims team will assess your claim and be in touch to discuss your options.

Ways to lodge your claim
Online
You can make a claim online 24/7, 365 days a year, using our easy guided claims process.
Over the phone
You can also call us to make a claim or ask any questions you may have. Keep in mind that wait times are longer than usual.
Checking your cover
Find out exactly what you’re covered for by checking your Certificate of Insurance and Product Disclosure Statement in your online account.
These will show your:
- policy number and expiry dates
- policy summary
- excesses
- optional cover (if applicable).
After you've submitted your claim
RACV Insurance will start by assessing the information you’ve provided, as soon as possible.
If you're in need of immediate support, like temporary accommodation, our claims team will be in touch to discuss your options. They may also contact your for more details, if required.
From there, they’ll let you know what happens next, depending on your circumstances.
Temporary repairs and accomodation
If your home isn’t in a safe and livable condition following a listed event, we may arrange temporary repairs or accommodation for you, your household and pets, for up to 12 months.
Keep in mind that temporary accommodation cover will only apply if you lived in your home permanently prior to the insured event.

Staying safe
- Plan on how and where to evacuate to in the event you need to leave.
- Pre-pack an emergency kit of essential and sentimental items in plastic bags or containers to keep them dry and safe from water damage.
- Check the Australian Bureau of Meteorology for forecasts and warnings to keep up to date with what’s happening in your local area.
Protecting your home
- Secure external doors and windows.
- Store or secure outdoor items like trampolines or garden furniture.
- Clean gutters and downpipes.
- Check the roof for cracked or displaced tiles that could cause leaks.
- Sweep branches, leaves and other debris away from drains.
- Make sure your home insurance is current and covers you for the right items and structures.
Protecting your vehicle
- Move your vehicle under shelter, or cover it with a securely fastened tarp or blanket.
- Move your vehicle to higher ground.
- Check if your motor insurance policy covers your vehicle for storm and flood damage.
