4 steps to a smarter home

Download the app and set up a Samsung account

Follow the SmartThings in-app instructions to set up an account.

Set up your SmartThings Wi-Fi hub

Detailed instructions are provided in your starter kit or you can use the SmartThings app to guide you through the process step by step. Connect your hub either to your home Wi-Fi or use the Ethernet cable in your starter kit to connect it directly to your home internet. You’ll also need to connect your hub to a nearby power outlet.

Set up will take about 5 - 10 minutes to complete depending on the speed of your internet connection.

Connect your SmartThings sensors and other compatible smart devices

Just like your hub, the sensors are easy to set up yourself. In the home screen in the SmartThings app use the '+' icon to add a new device. Search by brand or use the auto detect function to locate the device you want to connect. Follow the on-screen pairing steps or consult the device’s manual for device specific instructions.

Once it's paired, give each device a name so it’s easy to identify!

Start enjoying your new smart home!

There’s lots of functionality just waiting to be explored in the SmartThings app. You can:

  • Create rooms and locations to customise experiences between connected devices within a room.
  • Control your devices from the Home page in the SmartThings app. You can interact directly with compatible devices through the app any where, any time.
  • Create scenes like 'Good morning' or 'Leaving Home' to automatically turn on or off compatible connected devices when you trigger the scene to run.
  • Create automations that run when it's a certain time, or if a sensor detects motion, even based on your location. With an automation you can trigger a notification, control a connected smart device or run a scene.

Five steps to a safer home

Download the Arlo app and set up your Arlo account

Connect your Arlo base station directly to your modem using an Ethernet cable, then connect it to power and turn it on

Wait until the power and internet LED lights turn green on the hub

Set up your cameras by pressing the sync button

Tip: Cameras must be synced one at a time. Stay close to your Arlo base station as the camera needs to be within 30 - 100 centimetres of the base station for the initial sync. If the camera LED on the base station is solid green, you've succesfully linked your camera!

Mount your cameras around your home

Tip: Choose locations where your cameras will have an unobstructed view and will be most likely to detect motion in your home.

When choosing where to place your Arlo cameras, keep a couple of things in mind so you see your home in brilliant detail, day or night, no matter where you are.

First, make sure you place them in spots where they're most likely to detect unwanted visitors or notify you of motion in important areas of your home. Your front or back door and the hallway or key living spaces are all great locations.

Your cameras need to be within 100 metres of your Arlo base station and will detect motion up to 7 metres away. The base station has LED lights that will blink amber if your camera is placed too far away.

Arlo Pro 2 cameras use infrared technology to detect objects in their field of view that are warmer than the surrounding environment. A motion sensor is more sensitive to side-to-side movement across it’s field of view than to movement directly toward or away from the camera. So think about positioning your cameras to detect movement from side-to-side rather than directly front on. You can also set the motion sensitivity setting using a range of one (low sensitivity) to 100 (high sensitivity).
