What is RACV Trades and how does it work?

RACV Trades make it quick and easy for you to find a local tradie to help you deal with emergency or everyday jobs around the home. Whether you need an electrician, plumber, or general repair, we’ll help you find the right tradie for the job. 

For everyday maintenance, you can get a quote online. Tell us what you need done online or over the phone and RACV Trades send a trusted tradie based on your job type, when you need it done and your location. It couldn’t be easier!

If your home repair is urgent or an emergency, call RACV Emergency Home Assist on 13 46 63. A rapid response plumber, electrician or locksmith will be at your home, usually within the hour. You can either pay a single price per emergency or subscribe and get access to up to 8 emergency callouts annually.

How can I get a quote for a non-urgent trade job?

If it’s not an emergency, you can get a quote online. Tell us what you need done online or over the phone and we’ll send a trusted tradie based on your job type, when you need it done and your location. It couldn’t be easier!

Once your tradie has assessed the job, which may involve a site inspection, you’ll receive a quote. Once you’ve accepted the quote, your tradie will contact you directly to schedule a time that suits you.

What if my home repair is urgent or an emergency?

If it’s affecting the safety or security of your home, it’s likely to be an emergency. Our rapid-response plumbers, electricians and locksmiths are ready to help 24/7 and can attend home emergencies 365 days a year. Whether you have a blocked toilet, power outage, or you’ve locked yourself out of your home a qualified expert will arrive on your doorstep, usually within an hour.

Are RACV Trades quotes free?

Yes, getting a quote through RACV Trades is completely cost and obligation free.

For all quotes above $1,000 a deposit is generally required, usually 20% of the total cost. This needs to be paid before work can begin.

Is a tradie available in my area?

Tradies are available for home emergencies in metropolitan Melbourne and most regional areas in Victoria.

For everyday home maintenance and repairs, we can only quote on jobs in metropolitan Melbourne. We do plan to expand our Trades services across regional Victoria in the future to include non-urgent repairs. To find out what tradies are available in your area, describe your job and request a quote.

How can I update my job quote?

If you have realised that the job you have submitted is incorrect or has changed, it’s best you contact your tradie directly to let them know. They’ll be able to confirm the changes with you and send you an updated quote.

How do I cancel a job booking?

To cancel a job booking, please contact your tradie to let them know as soon as possible. 

If you cancel the job on the day of the booking, a cancellation fee may apply to cover your tradie’s time and any specialist parts that are ordered. Cancellations made before the day of the job aren’t charged a cancellation fee, unless the tradie has purchased specialist parts. For more detail read the RACV Trades Terms and Conditions.

What if I have questions about my quote?

If you have questions about your quote, you can contact your tradie directly to discuss the details before accepting the quote.

What if additional work is needed for the tradie to resolve the issue in my home?

If your tradie identifies that additional work is needed to resolve the underlying issue, they’ll discuss what’s required with you and check that you’re happy with the changes before the cost of the job is updated. 

If there’s anything else we can help with around your home, your tradie will capture the details and can arrange a separate quote.

Will RACV Trades refund my deposit if I change my mind?

If you cancel the job at any time before the day of the booking, your deposit will be refunded in full, unless the tradie has purchased specialist parts.

If you cancel the job on the day of the booking, a cancellation fee may apply to cover your tradie’s time and costs related to any specialist parts that have been ordered.

Can I speak to my tradie before they arrive at my home?

Yes, your tradie will give you a call within 2 business hours of receiving a quote request to confirm the details of your job.

RACV Trades will send a quote via email, which will have all the job requirements and contact details of your trade provider so you know how to get in touch.

What if I'm not satisfied with the work completed?

RACV Trades are proud to stand behind the work of our tradies.

If at any time you’re not completely satisfied with the work completed, the first step is to discuss your concerns with your tradie to see what can be done.

What are my payment options?

Once the job is complete, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to make a payment by:

  • Debit or credit card: pay over the phone or online using the email payment link.
  • Electronic funds transfer: refer to the payment details on your invoice.

Who is RACV Trades' service provider and how do they work?

All RACV Trades works are provided by RACV’s trades business, Club Home Response Pty Ltd.

RACV Trades provides customers and Members with access to the quality tradies to help with jobs around the home. You have access to trusted, qualified and licensed tradies who work as contractors for RACV Trades.

RACV Trades manage the tradies, so you don’t have to.

What qualifications, licenses or insurance do your tradies have?

Tradies with RACV Trades are onboarded and vetted each year by experienced industry specialists to make sure they are accredited, licensed and insured. RACV Trades also checks that all tradies can meet our high service standards and only complete work that we’re proud to stand by.

I'm a tradie, how do I join the RACV Trades network?

If you're appropriately qualified, licensed, insured and are reputable in your field, you can register your interest in joining our network by calling RACV Trades on 1300 481 462.

Expressing your interest does not guarantee you will be registered with the RACV Trades network. RACV Trades will review the information provided and if you are selected to join, we’ll let you know what the next steps are.

What warranties are applied upon completion of the work?

One of the benefits of booking with RACV Trades is that if a part or fitting is faulty or doesn’t meet quality standards, RACV Trades are here to help. If you are unhappy with the quality of the work after it’s completed, the first step is to contact your tradie to see how they can help.
