RACV is pleased that the Government has signed a contract to proceed with removing the nine level crossings between Caulfield and Dandenong on the Cranbourne-Pakenham lines.

When implemented, the “Skyrail” project will markedly improve safety and reduce the massive congestion and delays in this area. Several of the level crossings have repeatedly featured within the Top 10 of the RACV Redspot Survey, held in conjunction with Leader Newspapers every second year. The level crossings are a recurring contributor to local congestion, affecting people driving and riding to work, and going to and from the train stations. The delays makes it difficult for buses to run to their timetables and coordinate with train services.

The consultation report released today shows strong support for the project, and a commitment by the Level Crossing Removal Authority to continue community engagement to address the issues that have been identified.

RACV encourages the State Government to continue its program of engagement and developing solutions that address the local issues in each area where the removal of level crossings are being planned.
