Designer tips from the experts to get your place looking like a Vogue Homes cover shoot.

We’ve spent more time in our homes over the last 18 months than well, ever. And all this extra time has us noticing things we didn’t before.

Whether it’s a paint colour you never quite liked, decorative touches that aren’t gelling, or bathroom tiles that just have to go – Australians have never been more into home renovations than right now.

But with all the gear and no idea, styling your home like a pro is hard, and we don’t blame you for not knowing where to start!

To help, here are six of the best home design podcasts that will teach you how to renovate, decorate and de-clutter, making your place the envy of the entire street.

6 of the best interior design podcasts

At home with Lauren Keenan

Lauren Keenan is a Sydney-based interior designer who is possibly the most sought after in the country.

Her whole ethos is that your home should be a reflection of you and the way you live, which is why Lauren’s podcast is about helping you design a space you actually want to be in, no matter your lifestyle, taste or budget.

You can expect to hear interviews with some great Aussie talent like Jamie Durie and Amanda Talbot.

You may just become inspired to start working on your own interior design project.

Get it right with Undercover Architect

If you’ve ever had a career pivot after having children, Amelia Lee can relate. After having her first baby, she says she went from being a high-powered architect on huge projects with a lot of respect, to being ignored and not taken seriously.

With the change in perspective, she decided to start a design podcast helping everyday Aussies get their renovations right.

Amelia offers practical tips from an architect’s perspective you probably never thought about and gives you the knowledge to do things yourself because everyone loves a bit of DIY.

Give this one a go if you’re looking at doing a full-blown renovation as opposed to a little spruce up.

Reno Radio

Apart from having probably the coolest podcast name, Reno Radio is also one of the best out there if you’re someone who is looking to flip houses for a profit.

Hosted by Naomi Findlay from the TV show Changing Rooms, she has a modest 117 renovations to her name and even an app – Rapid Reno Mate – to help you become a total expert.

She’s also got some practical advice on things like preparing your home for inspection days, how to get the most money from auction, tips and tricks for success, and a few lessons she learned along the way in the world of design.

So if you’re looking at entering the design game on a more serious note and are ready to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty, listen here and let Naomi guide your home reno.

House of Style

What do you get when two rivals in the style world join forces? An awesome podcast hosted by Jono Flemming and Kerri-Ann Jones.

These two guns spend their time chatting with some of Australia’s top designers, furniture-makers, artists and creatives – and give you all their juicy secrets to nailing your designs.

With guests like the founders of luxury brand Jardan and the judges from The Block, this podcast is the all-rounder in terms of design as it covers topics like renovations, styling tips, and how to get the most out of small spaces.

The Art of Decluttering

If there was ever a more applicable podcast to pretty much everyone in Australia, we’re yet to find it.

In a consumer-driven society, we’re probably all guilty of having too much ‘stuff’. And when it comes to decluttering some of it, it’s a lot harder than it looks (TV really does make it look so simple).

Hosts Amy Revell and Kirsty Garrugia, who call themselves ‘Professional Organisers’, chat through the ins and outs of what decluttering is and how we can nail it – all in the most practical way possible.

The Design Files

This podcast is more of a look at the careers and inspirations of some of this country’s best designers and entrepreneurs. Each episode shares what drives their work and how they bring their creative visions to life.

You’ll hear from Paul Bangay, Beci Orpin and Penelope Seidler, who all share some tips and tricks along the way.

So, if you’re more into high-class design and the stories behind the people, this one is for you.

Get out the paintbrush, the power tools and the throw cushions because once you’re done binging these podcasts, you’ll be unstoppable when it comes home reno and design – have fun!
