Cactus Country at Strathmerton is a quirky place. There are 3.2 hectares of mature landscaped gardens with 4000 species, and some of the cactus plants are 50 years old. The colours and are amazing, with examples from South America, North America, Mexico and Africa. You might like to try cactus cake in the cafe. The nursery, of course, sells cactus plants.
The Murray River is one of the most popular fishing destinations in Australia, and many anglers go in search of the famous – and delicious – Murray cod, Australia's largest freshwater fish. Throw in a line from the bank, or take your tinny out onto the river or Lake Mulwala. And don't forget your fishing licence – you need a NSW licence to fish the Murray, even from the Victorian bank.

Barmah National Park is the largest river red gum forest in the world and an ecological wonderland, full of diverse wildlife, especially waterbirds. Kingfisher Eco Cruises is a great way to experience it. The area also has a rich Aboriginal heritage which is revealed at the Dharnya site within the park.
There are bike paths to enjoy along the levee banks by the Murray. Ride the Quinn Island track through the bush, where you will see lots of wildlife. Stop at picturesque lunch spots and take in the landscape.
The easiest way to RACV Cobram Resort is to take the Hume Freeway out of Melbourne and then continue onto the Goulburn Valley Freeway through Shepparton, then on to Cobram.
Alternatively V-Line services operate between Melbourne and Cobram daily. Catch a train or bus from Southern Cross Station to Shepparton then a connecting bus to Cobram. This will take approximately four hours. For V/Line train and bus times, visit the V/Line website at www.vline.com.au.
