RACV is proud to once again support Biketober, a month-long challenge encouraging Victorians to incorporate bike-riding into their daily commute and lifestyle.

Running throughout October, Biketober is open to individuals and workplaces across the state, with participants logging their rides for the chance to win prizes.

Biketober is free for workplaces in participating councils including Ballarat, Banyule, Bendigo, Boroondara, Geelong, Kingston, Maribyrnong, Melbourne, Merri-bek, Moonee Valley, Port Phillip and Whittlesea. Workplaces outside these areas can join at a 50 per cent discount.

City of Melbourne Lord Mayor Nick Reece said the Council was proud to support Biketober and help make bike riding more accessible for the community.

“There are many proven benefits of cycling - from boosting wellbeing to connecting with community. We encourage everyone – whether you’re a regular rider or just starting out – to join us this Biketober and discover the joy of experiencing Melbourne by bike.”

RACV General Manager of Insurance and Roadside Products Bill Bloodworth said Biketober was an important initiative to support healthier, more sustainable transport choices.

“Biketober is a fantastic way to celebrate the positive impacts of bike-riding – whether you’re a casual rider or someone who rides every day,” Mr Bloodworth said.

“It’s about having fun, connecting with your workplace, and building healthy habits, while also contributing to less congestion and lower emissions on our roads. We’re encouraging all Victorians to give it a go this October.”

Biketober celebrated its strongest participation in 2024, with 5,623 registrations – up from 3,296 in 2023. Business participation also jumped – 265 workplaces had at least one rider, compared to 161 in 2023.

Mr Bloodworth was also enthused by findings that showed new bike-riders participating in Biketober were riding more regularly after the challenge.

A Biketober survey taken six months after the challenge showed 48 per cent of new riders reported riding more frequently, and 31 per cent were riding at least once a week.

In addition to prizes and workplace challenges, all participants in Biketober will receive their first year of RACV Bike Assist for free*. RACV Bike Assist provides roadside help to cyclists across Victoria, offering extra peace of mind when out riding.
