As Victoria grows, the importance of efficient, safe and reliable rail services surges.
That is why RACV will again ask Victorian commuters to complete a survey rating Victoria's regional and metropolitan rail services and stations. This is an opportunity for Victorians to be heard on an important issue that effects more than 250 million passengers trips every year.
RACV’s Acting Manager of Public Transport and Mobility Dave Jones said the third On Track survey aims to support advocacy for further improvements to the state’s rail network by pin- pointing the issues that are of highest concern for train commuters.
“The state has committed $1.4 billion for station upgrades over the next five years, and this is your chance to tell them what is needed at the stations you use. The more data we have, the stronger the message we can send” Mr Jones said.
The 2015 survey was completed by over 17,800 people and revealed the best (highest rated) train station in Victoria were the recently completed Wyndham Vale station (8.95/10), which is serviced by VLine trains. The highest rated on the Metro network was Ashburton (8.38/10). The worst performers were Aircraft (4.86/10) and Hallam (5.40/10).
The On Track Survey provides a unique insight into the experience of people using the rail network. The 2017 survey will assist the RACV’s ongoing advocacy for transport network improvements leading into the 2018 State Election.
“We know that almost three quarters of our 2.1 million members use public transport and they will want to see Victoria’s rail stations improved. Victoria’s economy and future wellbeing depends on a transport network that people enjoy using because it is safe, efficient and pleasant to use” Mr Jones said.
