Seven of the best things to do over the September school holidays
Marvel at the jellyfish at SEA LIFE Aquarium
There’s nothing quite like a day at the Aquarium taking in the starfish, sharks and, if you’re lucky, penguins. SEA LIFE has stepped it up again with its newest exhibition, Ocean Invaders. Descend into the world of jellyfish through an interactive sensory experience and lighting exhibitions before wandering through to the educational Jelly Lab. RACV members save up to 20 per cent on general admission.
Splash around at Adventure Park
If you think the Queensland theme parks are the only way to get your adrenaline pumping, think again. Adventure Park in Geelong is the perfect way to keep cool as you get your heart rate up on more than 20 waterslides and other supercharged H20 attractions. RACV members get discounted entry.
Step into a virtual reality
Take gaming to a new level these holidays with a virtual reality gaming experience in the city. Choose from a range of genres before stepping into a multi-player animated world as you team up to complete a challenge or battle it out with your friends. With more than 80 games to choose from, there’s no shortage of adventures you can have. Children under 14 must have adult supervision. RACV members save 10 per cent on tickets.
Explore Melbourne’s Christmas makeover
Summer in the city is hard to beat with myriad warm nights and open-air events going on. However, there’s something particularly magical about the transformation Melbourne undertakes as families prepare for Santa’s arrival. Head in during the evening to witness a series of free festive light projections found at the State Library, Melbourne Town Hall and Princes Bridge. Until December 25.
Unleash your wild side after dark at Melbourne Zoo's summer outdoor film festival or get a jump on the school holidays at The Big Bounce.
Bounce into the new year
Ever wondered just how large the world’s biggest jumping castle is? Experience it for yourself at The Big Bounce Australia. The giant jumping kingdom is bringing more than 1200 square metres of inflatable fun to Flemington Racecourse from 3 to 12 January. The blow-up park includes a 300-metre-long inflatable obstacle course, slides, ball pits and more. Toddler and junior sessions are available, so no one has to miss out on the action.
Hit the pedal at Melbourne Indoor Go-Karting
School holidays are no time to slow down. Grab a bunch of your friends and gear up for a racing adventure as you try to beat the clock, or each other. Sessions are split up from 15 to 45 minutes, with cars reaching speeds of up to 60kmh on a track filled with sunken corners, switch tracks and tight and wide hairpins. Plus, RACV members get 10 per cent off entry.
Have a roaring good time at the zoo
Whether its an evening movie, twilight concert or after-dark animal encounter you’re after, you'll find it at one of Zoos Victoria's three epic wildlife sanctuaries. From zoo twilight sessions and summer outdoor film festivals at Melbourne Zoo to Werribee Open Range Zoo's slumber safaris and Healesville Sanctuary's extended summer program, there's something for kids of all ages.
