The Nissan X-Trail remains one of Australia's most popular mid-size SUVs, and it's about to get a significant upgrade for 2026. The updated MY26 X-Trail introduces revised styling, improved interior, more advanced technology, and the latest in Nissan's connected vehicle services - are of which all aimed at keeping it competitive in Australia's crowded family mid-size SUV segment.
Sales of the current 2025 Nissan X-Trail range rose 17.7 per cent in October according to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industry's VFACTs sales report, but remain down 3.4 per cent year-on-year with 13,903 units sold as competition intensifies.
The Toyota RAV4 leads the medium SUV segment with 39,519 vehicles sold year to date, while the X-Trail is also bested by the Mazda CX-5 (18,842), Mitsubishi Outlander (18,517), Hyundai Tucson (16,662) and Kia Sportage (16,621). The X-Trail also faces the growing threat of the heavily-revised GWM Haval H6, BYD Sealion 6 and new Subaru Forester.

The new 2026 Nissan X-Trail features a slightly refreshed exterior design. There's a new front grille, redesigned bumpers, updated LED lighting and fresh wheel designs, all aimed at giving the X-Trail a modern look compared to newer competitors.
Under the skin, the new X-Trail continues with a mix of front- and all-wheel drive options, as well as five- and seven-seat configurations.
As tested in the previous model, e-POWER hybrid variants will continue to deliver smooth and quiet electric-style performance without the need to plug in, combining the benefits of electric drive with petrol engine range.

This system allows drivers to remotely monitor and control their vehicle via a smartphone app, with functions such as remote start, vehicle health reports, theft notifications and maintenance alerts.
From the ST-L grade and above, the Around View Monitor now includes new camera technologies such as Skeleton Hood view for better visibility on narrow roads and Multi View support for T-junctions.
Every variant continues to offer wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, displayed on a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, while upper grades add features such as a hands-free power tailgate, wireless phone charging and tri-zone climate control.
