Watch history come to life
An award-winning living museum set on a former gold mining site, Sovereign Hill recreates the hustle and bustle of the 1850s Gold Rush in Australia. There’s no shortage of things to do and see, you can pan for real gold in the diggings, watch $150,000 of molten gold being poured into a bullion bar and journey underground on a gold mine tour. Walking amongst colourful costumed characters and horse-drawn carriages, you can also visit the town’s theatre, schools, bakery, factories and shops for a truly immersive and memorable experience. But the fun doesn’t end there – be sure to stick around after dark to watch the spectacular sound and light show Blood on the Southern Cross, which tells the story of Australia's only civil uprising, the Eureka Stockade rebellion of 1854.
