Exciting news at RACV Goldfields Resort
RACV Goldfields Resort continues on its journey in the district’s golfing landscape, with the recent addition of PGA Professional Darren Bowman.
After completing his traineeship at the Ballarat Golf Club, Darren has found his mark as a member of the RACV Goldfields Resorts Golf team in Creswick, adding his golf expertise to the mix. Establishing golf credibility into the Resort, providing the skills and services of a PGA Professional for both Members and guests has been extremely well received. Darren Bowman said “As a Ballarat local, it is fantastic to have the opportunity to contribute back to golf, as a PGA Professional. I have a passion for improving peoples’ enjoyment of golf and the RACV Resort in Creswick have been fantastic in offering me an opportunity to do this, as well as supporting me as I pursue my professional aspirations. I will be running individual and group lessons, with Spring and Summer the main focus. I would encourage local golfers to come out to RACV Goldfields Resort for a game and a chat”.
Having grown up playing golf at Mt Xavier, Ballarat and Creswick, as well as representing the Ballarat District, Darren is well placed to understand the local golfing market and conditions. During his traineeship Darren finished in the Top 50 in Australia 3 years in a row in Trainee scoring averages, and will play in tournaments in Vanuatu & Tahiti later this year. With the Resort enjoying improved accommodation and conferencing business over the past 12 months, a real focus on the golf course offerings has been developed to enhance the already strong reputation which the Ballarat Region has for quality golf courses. A reputation for being a tough course, RACV Goldfields recently reviewed its course slope rating’s through Golf Australia and implemented the recommended changes in January 2019. The change was significant with the Blue tees moving from 125 to 133 and white 118 to 124, whilst the ladies red tees have also moved to a 134 rating. The new ratings provide a much fairer test of golfers’ abilities matched to their handicaps.
RACV Goldfields has also launched its 2019/20 Golf Membership packages, with the introduction of a “2nd Club” membership. This membership is aimed at providing additional golf options to golfers in the region, who must remain a member of their current club. Golf Manager, Steven Oliver, explained that the new membership option was designed to give golfers the opportunity to experience RACV Goldfields Resort, with member benefits, but not to try and recruit members away from other clubs. “The days of tribal golf are quickly coming to an end” Oliver said, “All Golf Clubs need to continue to work together, to provide existing participants with more options, but to also attract new people to the sport. Also, re-igniting some passion for the game with many of the people who are ‘taking a break’ from the sport.” RACV Goldfields will also look to add in Monday competitions with a focus on the Par 3 course which the Resort has to offer, and will now also run a Ladies Competition day on Thursdays – This will provide additional opportunities for female golfers in the region to get in an additional midweek round, with most other clubs holding ladies competitions on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
