Saving 1200 tonnes of carbon per year at Camberwell Grammar
Helping students learn about their environmental impact first-hand at Camberwell Grammar
In 2018, RACV Solar installed a 2,650 panel system across the prestigious Camberwell Grammar School in Melbourne.
The impact of this record-breaking system has been significant, generating around 1GWh of renewable energy per year, reducing Camberwell Grammar’s environmental footprint by around 1,200 Tonnes of CO2 per year. On school holidays this system exports a considerable amount of solar electricity into the local grid reducing the demand from traditional energy sources.
The project was driven entirely by the school student council, who presented the idea to the board demonstrating great student leadership from within.
As part of this project, RACV Solar created two ‘off grid classrooms’. Two of the science classrooms are powered entirely by solar and a Tesla Powerwall battery, with a TV screen showing their usage in the classrooms.
The two classrooms now compete on energy efficiency for 6 months, creating an extra level of educational value to the project, instilling energy concepts in the minds of students and helping inspire the next generation of renewable energy professionals.
