Frequently asked questions

The amount you insure your contents for (the 'sum insured') should be enough to cover the cost of repairing or replacing your belongings at today's prices.

When calculating your contents sum insured, make sure you include the cost of:

  • furniture and appliances
  • clothing and linen
  • mobile phones, computers and tablets
  • internal blinds
  • curtains and drapes
  • carpets and rugs
  • furnishings
  • medical items
  • toys
  • tools (limits apply for tools of trade).

Keep in mind

  • If you underinsure your contents, you may be caught short if you have to repair or replace them.
  • If you insure your contents for more than it costs to repair or replace them, you'll only be able to claim the actual cost to do so.

You can use our contents calculator to help estimate costs. For a full list of what you can cover, see the Product Disclosure Statement.

Your phone is covered for insured events when you’re inside your home, if you include its value in your general contents.

Extra cover you can add

  • Accidental damage adds cover for things like dropping your phone and cracking your screen when you’re at home.
  • Portable contents adds cover for your phone if it's damaged, lost or stolen when you're outside or away from home. You can also add other types of portable items, like laptops, tablets and smart watches.

To update your policy call us on 13 72 28.

For full details of what is and isn't covered, see the Product Disclosure Statement.

Some of your general contents can be covered if they're in storage in Australia. An additional premium may apply.

Before you move your belongings into storage, you’ll need to tell us:

  • the value of the items
  • where you’ll store them (to make sure it meets our criteria).

To see what can be covered in storage, check the Product Disclosure Statement. Call 13 72 28 to chat to the team.
