While Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 From the New World is widely known, his Symphony No. 7 is rarely performed. This concert brings the spotlight to that overlooked work, rich with the composer’s love of his Czech homeland and vibrant folk-inspired rhythms. The program also features Smetana’s Má vlast: Vltava, a lyrical musical journey following the river to Prague, and the Australian premiere of a new piano concerto, co-commissioned by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra with new work from Spanish-born composer Francisco Coll, featuring pianist Kirill Gerstein.
