• What is Onsite Caravan Insurance?

    With RACV Onsite Caravan Insurance, your caravan and its contents are protected against collision damage or loss caused by natural events like bushfire, flood or storm, malicious damage or theft, or a collision the road.

What does Onsite Caravan Insurance cover?

With an Onsite Caravan Insurance policy, you'll be covered for a range of events. Here’s a summary of what’s included: 

  • Loss or damage to your onsite caravan caused by a collision, flood, fire, malicious act, storm, theft or attempted theft.
  • Temporary accommodation up to $100 a day up to a maximum of $4,000 if you can’t live in your caravan following an incident and it’s your permanent residence.
  • Up to $300 for food spoilage as a result of an incident that is covered by your policy.
  • Up to $500 in emergency repairs following an incident.
  • Up to $1000 for contents cover which you can increase. ($500 limit applies for certain items or categories).
  • Liability cover up to $20 million for unintentional collision damage to someone else’s vehicle or property.

  • Loss or damage outside of Australia.
  • Towing from an incident to a safe place or the nearest repairer.
  • Repairs for old damage or the cost to fix faulty repairs.
  • Accommodation rates beyond the cost of the room (such as mini bar costs).
  • Loss or damage arising from not securing your caravan or leaving it in an unsafe place.
  • Rust, corrosion, depreciation and general wear and tear.

For added peace of mind, you can choose to boost your caravan cover with optional extras. If you do this, you’ll need to pay a little more on your premium.

Annexe cover
You can choose to cover your annexe for the same incidents as your caravan, up to an agreed value.

Additional contents cover
Your policy provides cover for contents up to a total of $1000. You can increase this amount by nominating any agreed value.

What’s covered under contents?

Your Onsite or Touring Caravan Insurance policy covers the following contents owned by you or a family member, up to a certain amount (depending on what contents you're claiming):

  • CDs, DVDs, records and game cartridges
  • Clothing and personal belongings
  • Entertainment systems, TVs and stereos
  • Furniture and furnishings
  • Tools.

Keep in mind that computers, mobile phones, GPS systems, cameras, manuscripts, and bikes are not included.

Do I need insurance to tow a caravan?

It is not a legal requirement to insure a caravan in Victoria. However, purchasing caravan insurance can help protect you from significant bills in the event your caravan causes unintentional damage to another vehicle, or in the event of damage or loss occurring to your caravan as a result of an insured event, like fire, flood, storm, theft or attempted theft.
