How much does roadside assistance cost?
How much you pay depends on what level of cover you choose. If you’re already an RACV Member you may also be eligible for a discount on your yearly subscription. Here’s a breakdown of our prices per subscription year:
- Roadside Care: $114 upfront or $10 per month
- Extra Care: $186 upfront or $16 per month
- Total Care: $255 upfront or $21.75 per month

What’s the difference between Emergency Roadside Assistance and Car Insurance?
Emergency Roadside Assistance refers to breakdown support for mechanical issues and problems like flat batteries, punctured tyres and lockouts.
Car insurance# is separate to Roadside Assistance and provides cover for damage you may unintentionally cause to people’s properties or vehicles as a result of an accident on the road, as well as other listed events such as theft, vandalism or fire.
Does roadside assistance include towing?
Yes, all levels of RACV Emergency Roadside Assistance include towing up to a specified kilometre range or to the nearest attending RACV Service Centre. Here’s a summary:
- Roadside Care: 20km
- Extra Care: 60km
- Total Care: 100km
Towing beyond the kilometre limit or beyond the RACV Service Centre may result in an additional out-of-pocket cost.
Can I use roadside assistance for someone else?
For Roadside Care and Extra Care, your roadside assistance can only be used for your nominated vehicle.
If you have Total Care, anyone who is driving your nominated vehicle is eligible for assistance; And you are eligible for assistance in any car you drive.
How long does roadside assistance take?
Usually, we’ll have someone out to help you within an hour of your call. However, sometimes the time it takes for help to arrive may vary depending on how great the demand for assistance is at any one time.
