The Denza B5 and B8 4WD SUVs have been released in Australia, but what is coming next from BYD’s premium brand and how does it plan to overtake BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus?
2026 Denza D9: Price, specs and release date in Australia
BYD’s premium brand Denza has unveiled its first all-electric vehicle for Australia. Priced from $85,990 plus on-road costs, the seven-seat Denza D9 luxury people mover offers a claimed driving range of 520km (WLTP) and significantly undercuts rivals such as Lexus and Mercedes-Benz.
The 2026 Denza D9 is the third vehicle to join the growing Denza model range in Australia following the arrival of the Denza B5 and Denza B8 plug-in hybrid 4x4 off-road SUVs in February 2026.
It won’t be the last brand new Denza to touch down in Australia this year though, with at least one, if not two more models expected to join the brand's growing number of local dealers by the end of 2026.
From ultra-competitive pricing and long-range performance to interior features and technology inclusions, here’s what you need to know about Denza’s new flagship seven-seater as it makes its Australian debut.

What is the Denza D9?
The Denza D9 is a full-size, seven-seat luxury MPV (people-mover) which the company claims has been designed to deliver a “first-class travel experience for every occupant, every day”.
Unlike the recently launched Denza B5 and Denza B8, which are plug-in hybrid 4x4s, the Denza D9 is purely electric, making it the brand’s first battery-electric vehicle in Australia.
While a plug-in hybrid version exists overseas, locally the D9 will be offered with two all-electric drivetrains – a single-motor front-wheel drive or a dual-motor all-wheel drive model.
Aimed at the premium family transporter and ride-share segment, the Denza D9 is comparable in size and luxury to high-end rivals like the Mercedes-Benz EQV and Lexus LM people-movers, as well as recent Chinese entrants such as the LDV Mifa 9 and Zeekr 009.
The 2026 Denza D9 has been priced to challenge established luxury brands, undercutting the Mercedes-Benz EQV by more than $30,000 and the Lexus LM by over $60,000.
When is the Denza D9 coming to Australia?
Denza formally revealed the D9 in Australia on March 2, 2026, with cars on sale now at the brand's growing number of dealers located across Victoria and Australia.

How much does the Denza D9 cost in Australia?
Denza is targeting value in the niche luxury people-mover segment with the Denza D9’s pricing. The 2026 Denza D9 is available in two variants: the D9 FWD, priced from $85,990 plus on-road costs, and the more powerful D9 AWD, which costs $95,990 plus ORCs.
Both variants take power from the same 103.3kWh BYD ‘Blade’ battery pack for a claimed range of either 520km or 480km respectively, with claims based on the WLTP protocol.
The luxury list of inclusions is extensive, with the Denza D9 featuring premium technology and luxury touches throughout the cabin such as two second-row captain's chairs offering massage functionality and powered leg rests, along with heating, ventilation and four-way lumbar adjustment.
While aftersales and warranty information is not currently available, expect Denza to extend its House of Denza ownership program to D9 buyers, which will include concierge-style servicing and exclusive owner events.
The D9's warranty is likely to mirror that of the wider BYD line-up, which includes an eight-year/160,000km warranty for the high-voltage battery.

What are the Denza D9’s electric motor specs and range?
The Denza D9 employs BYD’s advanced e-Platform 3.0 – a dedicated EV architecture featuring what’s claimed to be the world’s first mass-produced 8-in-1 electric powertrain system for maximum efficiency and integration.
Both FWD and AWD 2026 D9 models use a 103.3kWh BYD ‘Blade’ battery pack – a lithium iron phosphate unit which has been developed for both safety and longevity.
The single-motor D9 produces 230kW of power and 360Nm of torque, driving the front wheels. The flagship D9 AWD uses electric motors on both axles for a combined output of 275kW and 470Nm.
Thanks to the large battery, driving range on a full charge is a claimed 520km for the FWD and 480km for the AWD (WLTP test cycle). The Denza D9 supports 11 kW AC home charging and up to 200kW DC fast charging, allowing for rapid top-ups on the go.
An intelligent thermal management system helps optimise charging speeds and battery longevity in all conditions. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability is also standard, meaning the D9’s battery can power external devices or appliances – handy for camping or emergency uses.
A unique tail-light signature design will see the Denza D9 stand out on the road
Denza D9 exterior design
Like many luxury people-movers, the Denza D9 has an imposing presence on the road. It measures 5.25 metres long, with a broad stance (1.96m wide) and a tall, van-like roof (1.92m high). The D9 is similar in size to a Mercedes-Benz V-Class and rides on a lengthy 3110mm wheelbase that maximises interior space.
Denza designers have taken inspiration from mathematics and astronomy for the D9’s styling. The front fascia is inspired by the π (pi) symbol, with a bold grille featuring deep vertical bars said to convey a sense of “infinite power and immediate response”. Details on its side profile are meant to symbolise the trajectory of a celestial object, while the rear is adorned with distinctive LED tail-lights that Denza says create the effect of curved star streak light trails across the tailgate.
The result is a look that’s equal parts futuristic and upscale, helping the Denza D9 stand out among the sea of medium and large SUVs.

Denza D9 interior and features
Stepping inside the Denza D9 reveals an expansive, high-tech cabin with an emphasis on comfort and luxury. Denza has crafted the interior with premium materials as standard, including plush Nappa leather seating, white ash wood trims, soft-touch surfaces, and ambient lighting which Denza says will create a warm, elegant atmosphere for all seven occupants.
The three-row seating (2+2+3 layout) ensures every passenger travels in comfort: the second-row ‘captain’s chairs’ come with heating, ventilation and a massage function, power-adjustable leg rests, four-way lumbar support and memory settings, and both the second and third rows offer over 900mm of legroom. Headroom exceeds 1500mm in every row so even adult passengers can relax on long journeys.
Denza has packed the D9 with state-of-the-art technology and amenities to further enhance travel. Front and centre is a 15.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen which is complemented by a 10.25-inch digital driver’s cluster and a 12-inch head-up display for easy access to navigation, media and vehicle settings.
Rear passengers haven’t been overlooked either, and in addition to enjoying their business-class seating, those in the second row get their own 5.5‑inch touchscreen in the armrest to independently adjust climate control, seating position and entertainment.
All occupants can also use the D9’s four-zone intelligent voice assistant (which recognises individual voices) to control various functions by spoken command.
A standout feature is the built-in dual-mode fridge and hotbox in the D9’s cabin which is able to chill drinks down to -6°C or warm food up to 50°C to add convenience to family road trips and daily commutes.
Other luxury touches include dual-pane panoramic sunroofs, power-operated sliding side doors on both sides and a soft-close function on all doors. The D9 also boasts a custom-engineered 14-speaker, 420W Dynaudio sound system which is standard on both grades. Denza claims extensive acoustic insulation and laminated glass help keep the cabin hushed, registering just 64.8dB at 120km/h in testing, about the level of a quiet conversation.
For luggage and family gear, the Denza D9 offers ample boot space. Even with all seven seats in use, it provides 410 litres of cargo capacity which is equivalent to seven carry-on suitcases, and up to 2310L with the second and third rows folded down.
