The new Toyota RAV4 medium family SUV is now on sale, offering a fresh design, higher tech, a plug-in hybrid option and GR Sport flagship. Here’s the pricing, specs, power, towing and other key details for Australia’s best-selling SUV.

Local pricing and specifications for the sixth-generation 2026 Toyota RAV4 have been released, detailing the broader new model range for Australia’s top-selling SUV which includes the first-ever RAV4 plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

The new Toyota RAV4 is due to reach showrooms in March 2026 and will be offered with both Hybrid (HEV) and PHEV powertrain options in front-wheel-drive and AWD formats. A new flagship Toyota RAV4 GR Sport PHEV AWD model headlines the range.

The redesigned RAV4 will attempt to fend off a growing cohort of new rivals in the top-selling medium-size family SUV segment. These include the Mitsubishi Outlander (petrol and PHEV), BYD Sealion 6 and forthcoming new BYD Sealion 5 PHEVs, Kia Sportage (petrol and hybrid), Hyundai Tucson (petrol and hybrid) and Subaru Forester (petrol and hybrid). The GWM Haval H6 is also now available with a PHEV powertrain (joining petrol and hybrid) and, importantly, will soon benefit from transformative local suspension tuning.

Here's the full pricing details and specs released by Toyota Australia ahead of the RAV4 Hybrid and PHEV launch.

When does the 2026 Toyota RAV4 go on sale in Australia?

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 is now available to pre-order with the release of launch pricing. First deliveries to Australian customers are due late in the third quarter of 2026, with Toyota dealers adding the all-important new family SUV to their showrooms in March.

Toyota Australia says it has plenty of stock to meet current demands for the RAV4 SUV, but don’t expect heavy discounts on runout models as the local arm carefully matches stock levels to maximise resale values for its vehicles.

How much does the 2026 Toyota RAV4 cost?

The new 2026 Toyota RAV4 carries a price premium over the outgoing range, not just with the arrival of PHEV versions but due to a significant uptick in specification.

The new RAV4 range spans 11 variants – eight regular Hybrid models and three PHEV – across GX, GXL, Edge, XSE, Cruiser and GR Sport grades.

See our full price box below, which shows that pricing starts from $45,990 plus on-road costs for the entry-level RAV4 GX Hybrid 2WD – a rise of almost $4000 over the current equivalent model – while AWD adds $3350, the step up to GXL is $3000 and the AWD-only Edge adds another $3K. Higher up the range, the price hikes are closer to $6000, with Cruiser 2WD starting from $56,990 and XSE AWD from $58,340 (both plus ORCs).

The new Toyota RAV4 PHEV starts from $58,840 plus on-roads in XSE 2WD guise, with AWD adding $4500 and the flagship GR Sport PHEV AWD opening at $66,340 plus ORCs.

The exterior colour palette includes 14 different options (10 single-tone and four two-tone), not all of which are available on each variant. Premium paint adds $675 (mandatory on XSE). GX Hybrid models can be upgraded from a temporary spare wheel to a full-size spare for an extra $300, but all other variants are restricted to an inferior space-saver spare.

2026 Toyota RAV4 design and specification

The new-generation 2026 Toyota RAV4 is built on an upgraded version of the current TNGA vehicle architecture – a modular platform shared with Lexus that’s designed to improve vehicle handling as well as reduce manufacturing and development costs.

The exterior design is sleeker and more angular than the current RAV4, adopting Toyota's updated hammerhead styling cues, as seen on vehicles including the Toyota C-HR small SUV and the latest Toyota Camry Hybrid.

The new Toyota RAV4 GR Sport features unique exterior styling including 20-inch twin-spoke black alloy wheels, red brake callipers, aerodynamic front and rear spoilers, and a standout grille design with GR mesh pattern.

The GR Sport also has a 20mm wider wheel track front and rear, upgraded performance-oriented front shock absorbers, unique coil and spring rates, a rear brace and revised electric power steering calibration to further sharpen the SUV’s handling.

The RAV4’s cabin has received a comprehensive redesign, adding higher tech and a raft of new creature comforts. Interior space is comparable with the current model, while the cargo area offers a volume of 749 litres (Hybrid) or 672L (PHEV) with the 60/40-split rear seats upright.

What powers the 2026 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and PHEV?

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 offers a choice between the carmaker’s fifth-generation 2.5-litre series-parallel petrol-electric hybrid system and a new 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain based on sixth-generation hybrid tech. In both cases, the petrol engine is a naturally aspirated four-cylinder unit that requires 95 RON premium unleaded fuel.

The regular RAV4 Hybrid models produce a maximum combined power output of 143kW for both 2WD and AWD versions. This is down from the current 160/163kW (FWD/AWD) but should deliver improved efficiency. Official fuel economy figures are still to be released.

The PHEV FWD has a front-mounted electric motor and produces 200kW combined. The AWD PHEV adds a rear e-motor for a total combined output of 227kW. Both draw energy from a 22.7kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Local EV-only range claims are not yet available but European-spec models claim an electric driving range of up to 100km, based on the WLTP standard.

The PHEV models support AC charging up to 11kW and DC fast-charging up to 50kW, the latter enabling the battery to be recharged from 10-80% in 30 minutes, according to Toyota. The PHEVs also have bigger disc brakes and a 1500W inverter in the cargo area for charging small appliances with the high-voltage battery.

The maximum braked towing capacity is 1500kg for RAV4 AWD variants – both RAV4 Hybrid and PHEV – while 2WD models are limited to 800kg.

A new Embedded Drive Record feature on the 2026 Toyota RAV4 allows you to record and save video clips while driving.

What safety and technology features on the new Toyota RAV4?

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 debuts the carmaker’s new Arene operating system, promising what Toyota claims will be a seamless digital in-car experience using advanced artificial intelligence enhanced by over-the-air (OTA) updates.

A clearer infotainment screen display, configurable home screen layout, voice control, Google integration with points of interest and real-time navigation are all on offer with the Arene system. There’s also a new Embedded Drive Record feature where the onboard cameras act as a dashcam, allowing users to record and save video clips while driving, while Toyota says the Arene OS also enables a “comprehensive active safety upgrade” with greater functionality and detection capability.

Standard safety features fitted across the RAV4 range include autonomous emergency braking (AEB), emergency steering assist, active cruise control, front and rear cross traffic alert, lane trace assist, ‘proactive driving assist’, automatic high beam, parking support brake and blind spot monitoring with safe exit assist. Eight airbags are fitted standard (dual front, front side, driver’s knee and full-length curtain).

All models have a reversing camera but a panoramic view monitor offering better views around the vehicle is fitted on XSE, Cruiser and GR Sport variants.

The RAV4’s connected services suite continues to offer automatic collision notification with SOS emergency call (eCall) across the range, which can now send new data points to the emergency call centre in the event of a crash. These include pinpointing specific airbags that have deployed and whether the car was involved in a rollover.
