The new BMW iX3 electric SUV will arrive in Australia mid-2026 with up to 805km range, rapid 400kW charging, innovative interior and safety features, and eye-catching looks. From pricing to features, here's what you need to know about the 2026 BMW iX3.
2027 BMW iX4: price, range, features and release date in Australia
The first BMW iX4 electric SUV-coupe will arrive in Australia in the first quarter of 2027, priced from $103,900 and offering up to 828km of claimed WLTP range. Learn more about the iX4’s price, range, charging, key features and how it compares with the BMW iX3.
BMW will expand its new generation of electric vehicles in Australia with the first-ever BMW iX4, an SUV with a coupe-like roofline that repackages the German brand’s much-publicised Neue Klasse EV platform to create a sportier and slightly less practical alternative to the BMW iX3.
The long-awaited new iX3 is now on sale in Australia and was the first Neue Klasse model to arrive locally. The iX4 will become the second SUV using the platform when deliveries begin in the first quarter of 2027, joined by the upcoming the BMW i3 mid-size sedan.
Priced from $103,900 plus on-road costs, the iX4 will compete for premium electric SUV buyers against models including the Porsche Macan Electric and Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric. The significantly cheaper Zeekr 7X is also an indirect rival, albeit with a more conventional medium family SUV body.
Two dual-motor/all-wheel-drive variants of the BMW iX4 will be offered initially to Australian buyers. The BMW iX4 40 xDrive produces 275kW of power and offers up to 638km of claimed WLTP range, while the BMW iX4 50 xDrive steps up to 345kW, 828km range and peak DC fast-charging at 400kW.
“The iX4 is another important step in BMW’s Neue Klasse rollout and brings with it big changes in terms of design, interior tech and driving experience compared to the outgoing X4,” says RACV Motoring Editor Terry Martin. “BMW is chasing longer range and faster charging with its new generation of EVs, while also trying to retain the design, performance and driving character long-time buyers associate with the brand.”

The flowing roofline on the BMW iX4 helps achieve 0.23Cd drag coefficient, which in turn maximises driving range.
How much will the BMW iX4 cost in Australia?
The 2027 BMW iX4 will be priced from $103,900 plus on-road costs for the iX4 40 xDrive, and from $119,900 plus ORCs for the iX4 50 xDrive.
That leaves a $16,000 gap between the two launch variants, with the 50 xDrive bringing more power, a larger battery, longer claimed driving range and faster charging.
An M Sport Pro package will also be available on the iX4 40 xDrive and iX4 50 xDrive for $3500, among a host of other options.
When will the BMW iX4 be released in Australia?
The BMW iX4 is due to arrive in Australia in the first quarter of 2027, which is when first customer deliveries should also begin.
The iX4 40 xDrive and iX4 50 xDrive will both be available from launch, while the higher-performance and more expensive iX4 M60 xDrive will join the Australian range later in 2027.
For now, there’s no rear-wheel-drive iX4 40 variant, as seen in the iX3 model range.

The BMW iX4 has a sportier stance than the iX3, but does lose some practicality in the process.
What does the BMW iX4 look like?
The BMW iX4 applies the German brand’s Neue Klasse design language to a lower and sportier coupe-style medium SUV body.
Its long wheelbase, short overhangs and flowing roofline (40mm lower than iX3) give it a sleeker profile than the closely related BMW iX3. A pronounced rear spoiler, sculpted bodywork and slim horizontal rear lights add to its wider, more dynamic stance, though an obvious visual connection to the iX3 remains.
At the front, BMW’s traditional kidney grille and twin headlights are incorporated into a single graphic element that blends the past with the brand’s EV design ethos.
The standard M Sport package adds 20-inch M light-alloy wheels and M Sport brakes with blue callipers to increase visual drama.
The iX4 has a drag coefficient of 0.23Cd, with its streamlined body contributing to aerodynamic efficiency and driving range.

The BMW iX4 50 xDrive has a large 108.7kWh battery on board, boosting the claimed WLTP driving range to an excellent 828km.
What is the BMW iX4’s driving range?
The BMW iX4 offers up to 828km of claimed WLTP driving range, depending on the variant.
At the entry level, the iX4 40 xDrive combines an 82.6kWh (usable) battery with up to 638km of claimed range using the WLTP combined test cycle. The iX4 50 xDrive uses a larger 108.7kWh (usable) battery to extend maximum claimed range to 828km WLTP, giving it an extra 190km (on paper, at least) than the base model.

How fast can the BMW iX4 charge?
The BMW iX4 uses an 800-volt electrical architecture as part of BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology. The iX4 40 xDrive supports DC fast charging at speeds up to 300kW, while the iX4 50 xDrive can accept up to 400kW.
According to BMW, both models can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in as little as 21 minutes when connected to a suitable high-power DC charger under ideal conditions. BMW also says the iX4 50 xDrive can potentially add up to 387km of claimed WLTP range in 10 minutes.
“An 828km claimed range gives the iX4 50 xDrive very strong credentials for longer-distance travel and interstate road trips,” says Martin. “It trails slightly short of the iX3 but will still be at the pointy end of electric SUVs in Australia with the longest WLTP range available.”

As per the iX3, the new 2027 BMW iX4 has an angular, high-tech and driver-focused interior.
What is the BMW iX4 like inside?
Inside, the BMW iX4 marks a very clear break from the current X3 and X4. BMW’s Neue Klasse design introduces a cleaner, more driver-focused cabin, according to the brand, with a new approach to displaying vehicle information that debuted with the iX3.
BMW Panoramic iDrive sits at the centre of the new layout. It combines a 17.9-inch central display with Panoramic Vision, which projects key information across the lower windscreen and into the driver’s natural line of sight.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, while the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant supports natural-language interaction and proactive suggestions.
A full-length panoramic glass roof extends towards the rear of the cabin, adding to the sense of space and light. Climate comfort glazing uses special coatings to help reduce heat build-up in direct sunlight, a boon for Australian buyers.

The recently released BMW iX3 40 is the new entry point for iX3 at $89,900 plus on-road costs.
BMW iX4 vs BMW iX3: what’s the difference?
The BMW iX4 is a lower, sportier SUV-coupe alternative to the BMW iX3, trading in some luggage capacity for a more distinctive shape – and a higher price tag.
The two models are both 4782mm long and 1895mm wide, but the iX4 stands 1595mm high, making it 40mm lower than the iX3 (1635mm).
The lower roof also impacts practicality. The iX4 has 490 litres of boot space with the rear seats up and 1600 litres with them folded. The BMW iX3 offers up to 1750 litres with its rear seats folded, giving it 150 litres more luggage capacity.
There is little separating the two entry-level iX3 and iX4 variants on claimed range. The all-wheel-drive iX4 40 xDrive offers up to 638km WLTP, compared with 635km for the rear-wheel-drive iX3 40.
“The iX4 gives buyers a sportier alternative to the iX3 without losing all the everyday usability expected of a medium SUV,” says Martin.
“The iX3 remains the more practical choice, while the iX4 should appeal to buyers prepared to sacrifice some luggage capacity for a lower and more distinctive design that brings extra wow factor – though it does come at a cost.”
