Residents of Cobram are eagerly awaiting the completion of the new Cobram library after work began in February on the $1.8 million project.

As part of the development RACV Cobram Resort has contributed $130,000 through the RACV Good Citizen Program.

Gary Hunt, RACV Cobram Resort Manager, said RACV is delighted to make this meaningful contribution to Cobram and regional communities who will now benefit from a modern new library and its facilities.

“The new Cobram library is a real community project that will benefit residents and visitors to this growing rural region,” Mr Hunt said.

Cr Gary Cleveland, Mayor of Moira Shire, expressed the strong need for the project with the existing library unable to meet present and future community needs.

“I was overwhelmed when Gary Hunt from the RACV Cobram Resort let me know RACV would be making a substantial donation for the Cobram Library Project.

“The generosity from RACV via the Good Citizen Program and other supporting local businesses has given a magnificent boost to help us reach our targeted community contribution of $150,000.

“The library will provide new facilities and opportunities by being a hub of community activity,” Mr Cleveland said.

The funds provided by RACV will contribute to the modern fit-out of the library including furniture, IT equipment and shelving.

The library will include an innovative floor plan with interactive community spaces that will significantly increase the library’s ability to deliver a variety of education, community, health and youth programs.

“The RACV Good Citizen Program reinforces our 30 year relationship with the Cobram community by providing support for not-for-profit community organisations and groups,” said Mr Hunt.

The new Cobram library will be located at the Cobram Civic Centre and is expected to be completed by 30 September 2016.
