As part of RACV's commitment to a clean energy future, in 2019 RACV Solar designed and installed a 377 kW solar array at RACV's Torquay Resort. The system included the installation and integration of 4 Chargefox electric vehicle charging stations - 2 EV fast chargers and 2 EV ultra-rapid charging stations (the first ultra-rapid stations for Torquay).
"More of these charging stations will boost tourism, reduce carbon emissions and help us build a cleaner, more sustainable future."
- The Honourable Lily D'Ambrosio, Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change
EV owners are now able to top up their cars' batteries at the resort in as little as 15 minutes, using 100 per cent renewable energy.
"Torquay is the starting point to one of the world's most scenic coastal drives. To be able to offer a reliable and fast EV-charging station for people travelling along this beautiful coastline is exciting."
- Nicole Brasz, Executive General Manager, RACV Home division
The architecturally designed roof at RACV Torquay Resort made the design complex. Using our drone and 3D modelling technology, RACV Solar engineers were able to identify areas of the roof that would be affected by shading at certain times. As such, the solar solution included the use of commercial optimisers to ensure the maximum energy production was achieved, and the impact from the shading mitigated.
In 2020, RACV added commercial battery storage to the installation, making the resort a leading example in the application of sustainable energy solutions as we move towards a clean energy future.
