Frequently asked questions

Is Emergency Home Assist available in my area?

Emergency trade services are available in metro Melbourne and most regional areas in Victoria.

What is considered a plumbing emergency?

Sometimes it’s hard to work out whether you have a general maintenance problem or a plumbing emergency. We consider an emergency to be a situation where:

  • there is significant water wastage and/or overflow that is likely to cause damage to your home or property if immediate steps aren’t taken.
  • an internal or external gas leak or damage to a heating or cooling system threatens the safety of your home.

Common signs of plumbing emergencies often include:

  • a puddle appearing where there was none before
  • streams of water appearing on your wall or from your ceiling
  • sudden onset of strange smells from your taps
  • smell of gas (like rotten eggs)
  • overflowing drains or toilets.

I’m a renter. Can I purchase RACV Emergency Home Assist?

RACV Emergency Home Assist (EHA) is not available to tenants, only residential homeowners or their managing agents (including houses, duplexes, flats, units and apartments).

If you think EHA would be handy to have, we suggest speaking to your landlord or managing agent about the benefits of a subscription.
